When you are transitioning from a bosal to a bit do you hang the bit under or over the bosal? Why do you hang it the way you do?

over, to allow better movement of the bit/independant shanks..

Over. If you were to hang the bit under the bosal, then the action of the bosal will move the cheek pieces and pull on the bit. You eleminate that problem by hanging it over. Make sure your bosal is well above the purchase of the bit. If the bosal is low it can pinch the lip between the bosal and the bit, or it will widen the purchase of the bit and make it fit incorrectly, so make SURE your bosal is above the purchase.
BTW - I put honey on the bit to get the horse to LIKE being bitted. I also start with hanging a jacinta for at least a week before I bit.
