Hi, My mare, Cassidy, had her baby early. The kids and I went out to catch her after a year on state land and she was in great shape and ready to go. She settled in her stall and had the baby this Sunday. We were out within 3 hours to do some socializing. It's a boy and right now we're calling him "little Tim" for a story that my daughter wrote last year.

WOW! What awesome color and leg barring, His ears don't look all that long to me, are they? Is his mom a Paso?

Mules seem to really be gaining in popularity in my area.

Mom is 3/4 PR and 1/4 Col. She is a largo mare and small. The baby is the smallest born out there--ever.

Maybe it's the angle of the pics but the ears don't look overly long to me either compared to so many mules I've seen.

Oh no, you have a paso mule. I'm the one around here that will take him and hide him out back for you. I'll never tell anyone where he came from and you won't have to be embarassed any more ;-)

He is so gosh darn cute. Love them long ears!

So who's the daddy? Is he a gaited jack?

Let's see if these come up. The quality isn't as good as I only took 4 photos on the third day.

I rode an appy to go get some maresand their mule babies and it was a wild ride compared to the son of this mare that I ride. When the appy latched onto the mares he was only happy to be sorting them. Eventually the job was done and he got over excited. I rode my calm guy this morning and my adrenaline finally came down... Wish I had photos as there were two Paso mules in that bunch.

The daddy is max who stands at http://www.djbarranch.com/. He's an amazing versatile guy who can cart, sort cows, enter trail classes, and who knows what else. He throws gait when bred to gaited mares.

Congradulations....!!! Nice looking baby and such dark stripes... Nice looking mare also. So do these mares just run wild on state land... no fencing... how do you separate them from other horses...!!!

Hi Rusel, The state land is fenced, so outside horses can't get in. There are usally about 30 horses and mules on the pasture. The pasture my mare is on is shared by two users. The second guy is an amazing Natural Horseman who helps move the horses to the higher pasture. I've been priveledged to ride along on two of these "roundups". I tried to help last week without him there and failed..... The next time I'll ride my own colt and will be alot more confident.
