I hear a lot of folks say how ugly lookin'the TWH is. You know, with their sickle hocks and big ol heads and all. Here's some uglies that people were riding this weekend at the Brookfield, NY trail system. I just don't know how people can stand to look at them, is all.

This is Gambler. 16 yr old TWH 14.3hh. Too crooked for words, yes?

Moon Shadow. An eight yr old TWH, 16hh...Ooohh look at that nasty HEAD on him!

Lady Di. A 6 yr old TWH mare, 15.1hh Definately not a keeper.

Those are some pretty horses!

I have seen some ugly in just about every breed but when I am riding a horse I could care less what they look like cause I ain't riding pretty - I am riding "can you get me from point A to point B in one piece".

When I am at a local show my favorite horses to watch are the really ugly ones that are carrying the kids around safely. And most often those kids have a grin from ear to ear. No amount of showsheen, or mane ribbons will help their look but to those kids they are the most beautiful horses in the world.

I agree with what you say Mona..... but there is always that little bit of ego that is attracted to beauty. It's hard to see how ugly a horse is when you are on it's back..... especially if you are having fun.

Mona/Edurne - you are right about beauty in the eyes of the beholder.

Jodi - Yep that would be Erica giving her critique to my "sister-in-law-to-be", Cheri. And Cheri would DIE if she knew I took a picture of her in sweat pants from behind! Lady Di (who is now Brigette, now) is the mare she got from me after she lost her Molly mare (14 yr old) to Potomac Fever last year. I could have made a LOT of money on that mare, but family is family. Shoot!

Beauty is as beauty does! and in my limited experience with TWH, they are beautiful both in eye and deed. Here is my favorite TWH.

Yep, those are ugly, ugly horses. Specially that nasty awful Moon Shadow. How can they be seen on such an ugly horse?

I am going to be riding one of those ugly TWHs on wagon train this weekend. I will make sure and get pics of her. ;-)

I hear that she is jet black and just a smidge fiery with a gait to die for. Perfect.

Really nice horses !

Mel where is the wagon train!!! I'm dying to go on one but the heat has been horrendous!!!

TW's are wonderful horses for the most part. The foundation bred did have really big ole heads though. We used to go to all the TW shows in the area as kids. Hated those long hooves before they started using pads. Same difference though. Still luckily people are still breeding and cherishing those foundation bred TW's who are worth their weigh in gold and who gait for hours with no extra pads or shoes or weights or chains. Just great horses.

I am getting used to the TWH. Most I've seen have been very nice. Haven't ridden one and don't have plans to. I like my short ponies!!

MG-I don't think this one will be as big as years past. It is in the Cohutta Wilderness in N Ga

I believe it will be fairly good sized. From Tommy's barn alone there will be ten horses of his getting ready to go plus the wagon. Then we have some that will be hauling in and leaving from there. I am figuring there will around 30 riders leaving from Tommy's to go across.

Also.... no comment on the big ugly TWH. ;-)

Well, other than he IS big headed! LOL!!

Oh and Mel, here is a pic of your ride. This is from last year. She is the one that had the baby.

We have a TW. Confidence builder and pure love as far as my daughter is conderned. That horse has the biggest heart in the world. Bought her for six hundred bucks. We care for her like she is made of gold.

If I had known that she was a Walker when we bought her, I probably wouldn't be posting on a Paso board today. Or have the amazing horse I ride now.
