Just found this site and I love it!

Have owned my Paso for several years now and can't imagine a better horse!

Looking foward to learning more and sharing some Paso stories...maybe even meeting fellow Paso owners in Rhode Island.

Don't know how to post pictures here, but if you're on AOL I have tons of pictures of my paso on my profile ....Minouri

Nice to meet everyone!

I rode English when I was a kid. As an adult (age 30) I started leasing gaited horses and rode western on the trails. Found I really loved trail riding.

Two years later, I was ready to buy a horse of my own. I was looking for something big and Flashy. Actually, almost bought several tall, black TWHs. I went to see a Paso in MA more out of curiousity than anything else. Had never even seen one.

Scooter (Untouchable De Classico) had been a lawn ornament for two years. I think he was 10 at the time. Prior to that he had been leased out to a young girl who had taught him some bad habits and had him trotting so he could be a jumper.

I wasn't impressed when I first met him. With no muscle tone and no sparkle to him, he reminded me of a chicken. All knees. I got on him and he carried himself with such pride that I had to take a second look at him. He tossed his head with an arrogance that made me laugh at the time. Who did this little man think he was? Hadn't he looked in the mirror lately? He was scrawny.

I was debating his worth from his back when the seller's kid came up behind us on his tricycle and beeped his rubber horn. I expected to go airborne, but instead Scooter turned he head and looked me right in the eye....saying as clearly as if he had spoken.....Do you SEE what I put up with? I laughed and bought him right there.

I boarded him at a large dressage barn that had a great indoor/outdoor. Learned a lot there. I've got some great stories that I've already posted on the other horse site I just joined. Finally found a dressage trainer who was willing to learn about Pasos...we went to Middleboro and she took a lesson from a big facility out there. Then she worked with me on my riding skills. Trail riding doesn't prepare you for a ring of warmbloods going every which way...lol

I'm at a small western barn now pending bringing him home in a month or so when we close on our new home....2.5 acres. Very excited.

Scooter is easily the best horse I could have ever imagined for myself. He's never let me down, has consistantly made me laugh, and has often amazed me with his intelligence.

Ex: He does not like to be moved from his paddock during the day. Some barns switch out horses to share paddock space. He will lay down and play dead if they try to take him....lol Smart little man.

The kids ride him and he's very patient with them. He's spirited and fast for me. He hates dressage rides...likes to buck them off....or run to the fence and stop so fast they have to hang onto his mane. Very little patience for "experienced" riders who want to battle with him....but he'll let the kids play lacrosse on his back and hit him repeatedly with the ball when their aim is off.

Oh yes, and sometimes he pretends he has no idea what the reins or leg aids are for. Just ignores riders and walks around like a drunk.

Always a perfect ride for me. I ride him with just his jaquima mostly even on trails....lately I've tried the Pony Boy halter......I do have a rubber bit for him but dont' use it except as a tune up when he gait gets lazy.

I'm just a backyard, family horse gal. I explained this to Scooter when I first got him and he's never let me down.....lol

Hope this helps you get to know me a little.

Oh the picture is of my 6 year old future step son last summer on Scooter. We had a blast at the lake.

NICE,
he looks like Terris Mico.

Is he registered?
I wonder what his lines are?

Minouri
01-22-2006, 06:17 PM
Yep, he's registered.....now where did I put those papers. I never bothered to reregister him when I got him but I have his certificate and lineage.

I showed it to a local Paso breeder/judge and he said that the horse had a great lineage and potential...the only thing that was stopping him from being a show horse was ME...lol I wasn't insulted. I learned what I needed from him to help me ride him better then went back to playing outside.

If you're curious I'll find and post his history.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Great to see you here and I love the pics BUT... Could you please reduce the size of your avatar to around 100 x 100 pixels? Right now it is so large that it is distorting the board. Thanks! :bsmile

Hi and welcome to the forum. Love your pix. You can really tell your boy is a big part of the family. The best kind of horse. ;-)

Please invite your kids to join the fun on the kids board if they enjoy the horses too. 8-)

welcome - scooter is definitely a proud looking fellow. Good choice you made when you got him.

Thanks to whoever put my small picture back on the side for me in the improved size even.....lol

Warren is about 30-45 mins south of me. I'm in the North Eastern corner of Rhode Isalnd. We are moving a little south.....to North Smithfield.....if all goes well with the house we're buying there.

I liked the comment on Scooter looking like he's a real part of my family. That's one reason I'm so thrilled to be buying a place where he can be in the backyard. He likes to play with dogs, so I'm hoping that he gets along with our lab mix.

In the pictures you'll see Scooter with a variety of riders. 95% of the time it's me who rides him but most of the time I have my camera only when a friend or the kids are coming over for a ride. I'll have to hunt down a good picture of me with him. I'm not even sure I have one of me ON him....imagine that. I guess I'm the only camera happy person in my crowd.

Just wanted to say again how much fun I'm having reading this bb. I love all of the pictures! There are so beautiful Pasos out there! And everyone has been so friendly. Thank you!

Ruthie
