Recently I listened to a talk from a friend who is a DQ for this association. Truly an excellent group and from talking with Steve I found out that the National Walking Horse Association welcomes ANY gaiting horse, as long as it's sound, in their shows and activities. I think you folks looking for different venues for showcasing your pasos would do well to check this out.

Thanks Beth..I didn't know there was another group like that. I'll keep it bookmarked. I'm already active in FOSH (Friends of Sound HOrses) which was also started by TWH people who were tired of the abussive soring, pads, chains, etc.

My experiences have all been great with these people. They really love their horses and put sound and painfree performances above blue ribbons. Great horsemen.

The past FOSH president lives just over the mountain from me. He is Parelli level 3, and they add Parelli tests and games to the shows (like riding the Trail course with just a carrot stick). They're a lot of fun.

BTW - they have a Trail Pleasure class that is PERFECT for our trail Pasos that are smooth and consistent. I love whippin TWH butt, on Zar in these classes....she is just TOO smooth. :-)

The problem with TWH getting their butts whipped is alot of newbie owners that don't realize their horse isn't gaiting correctly. Most think just because they bought a TWH means it is smooth, smooth, smooth. Not always the case. I have seen people with their TWHs trotting and thought they were just fantastic.

They are advertised as having the smoothest ride and their ride is pretty smooth but alot of new owners don't have a clue that their horse is pacing or doing a stepping pace. I personally prefer a racking horse over anything else. I like the Pasos but to me, size does matter. I like a big horse and Pasos just aren't very big.
