I have a question on bruises.First I do not bruise easy so if one shows up it had a pretty good reason to be there not this past weekend but the weekend before I got kicks by one of our young horses purly an accident(first trail ride other horse go to close she got scared I was in the way).

Anyway the bruise is on the right side just below the knee and it hurt like you know  most of the night iced it and so on well better the next morning still hurt but I figuerd I'd live and I could at least walk on it and look normal for me.

It was really not that big a bruise one spot the size of a quarter the other a dime thas all well it is still a little sore but again nothing big but the weirdest thing started happening at the show this weekend Fri night I noticed my bruise had krept down my leg it was now also in the lower part of my shin( odd)still had the other 2 by the knee well did not give much thought to it then Sat night it had krept down around my ankel with just a little puffyness( :-? okay odder) well Monday rolles around and its now also hovering over the arch of my foot.

So I start out with 2 small bruises and I still have them and they are still a little sore but I also have the one on my shin that is bigger that the other 2 together ,the 2 one each side of my ankel and now the one at the arch of my foot :?:

Anyone know why or what this could be  :?:

Ooooo....are they red streaks...that could be signs of a blood clot...don't mean to scare you, but you'd better see a dr. Hope it's nothing! :-?

hmmm. When I got in my wreck I ended up with a permanent bruise at the same area of my knee you are describing. It has turned to a dark color after the different colors went away. They said it is soft tissue damage and takes a very long time to heal.I also got kicked a long while back by Rosa, yearling then,in the very same area but on my other knee.Soft tissue damage.I now sport a perfect outline of a yearling paso fino hoof  .The one by Rosa did take days to show the outline and did seem to grow in size as it turned the dark color and became defined.
Yours sounds different but I thought i'd mention my experiences incase it might help.

Sounds like the burst vessel inside hasn't closed and it has leaked blood into the lower part of your leg due to gravity.
Perhaps you should have that checked out at the Doctor's?

I'm not likely to go to a Doctor unless in real pain,No Insureance

It is dependent bruising, a normal occurance. I wouldn't go to the Dr unless it starts to hurt or ther is fever in that area. I had that when I got caught by a hoof a few years ago. I went to the dr and that is what he told me after xrays to see if my wrist was broken (it wasn't). I see this all the time after surgeries done on knees, and hips. I have had to reassure patients' families about this often.

TO resolve it use warm compresses---heat will cause more blood flow to that area and help carry the blood cells away that have settled there. With an injury--first 24 hours ice it 20 mins on 20 off, then after that you can do heat to resolve bruising.

This is what it sounds like to me.....

If you don't have insurance, I'd keep a close eye on it.....does it hurt at all, is it getting bigger?

I had a burst blood vessel in my calf years ago from when Marci bowled me over - hurt like the dickens!!!! bruised up really nice, but didn't get very hard.....

Sorry I don't have any other suggestions........maybe try one of the MD web sites and see if they have any advice?

The bad thing is is I've never heard of a normal bruise "crawling" down the leg... :-?
If you don't have insurance...don't you have one of those open-clinics...where you go in, wait your turn, and it only costs you a set amount. We do here...and it's $65 for the visit...and they usually give you all kinds of free meds and stuff...sigh...just be careful with it...

I see it all the time---the blood released into the tissue can seep into dependent (lower) tissue by gravity. It is not a serious thing...happens a lot after an injury.

I bet it will all be gone in a week...

Yep...Michael gets grossed out as my bruises 'travel' around.......worried me at first too........I usually lightly massage mine to get the blood moving, but you have to be careful with a big one not to break off a clot by accident.

WARNING - a broken bone may NOT hurt !
If it is a clean break - I speak from experience :!:
I was doing wash Dec 20th of 1997 and decorating the tree - when I had to go down for the wash , I would bring boxes of decorations up stairs .
I caught my jogging pants on a huge coil of wire my hubby had down there ,sat down HARD with my foot under me and knee in weird postion
Yes it hurt, but I managed to get up and walk it off! Did 3 more loads of wash , finished the tree and other stuff ! Didn't really hurt - so I went to bed - when I got up it was just a tad puffy and bruised - went to Urgent care and, I had broken the top of the tibia !
I didn't need a plaster cast - had an exterior one that went over my pants ! DR removed over 5 oz of blood that had leaked into the knee!

With a bruise like that you have both blood and tissue fluid leaking into the area. This is the kind of bruise we use ice and DMSO on because it reduces inflammation. We have had amazing results with it. We use the gel and put seran wrap over it but the area has to be very clean. We then rinse with distilled water and let it dry then put on the DMSO gel which can be diluted with water also. I had a bruise from a dog bite last over a year before we tried the DMSO. A kick can do some serious damage. A friend still has damage from one and kept ice on hers I think for 24 hours or more. I don't know anyone who uses heat anymore. I know they used to but the latest I've heard is ice only.

Why not try a google on bruise - treatment?? Medline is a really great source, MedMD, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, are all good.

Still only aches it the origanal spot and not like it was after it happened by that night it was on fire could not put my foot down had to keep it up but once morn rolled aroung it was just sore the buises are getting lighter more green and yellow that black and blue and no pain and I've done a whole lot since with the show and all that

no easy medical place around here its all or nothing unless you want to go to ER then its double if it starts hurting other than the first spot skouts honor I'll go to a Doc but just can't justify it right now

now of course if it was one of my horses they have been to a vet the next morn ;-)

powdered charcoal made into a paste with water, a little flax seed meal added will make cleanup easier, use as a poltice. It'll clear up a bruse very fast. A lady we knew got a bad bruse in the sholder joint, jammed it on the corner of a car door, within a short time she couldn't move the arm at all and a doctor said it would take several weeks to get over it, 3 days with a charcoal poltice and she was lifting her arm over her head with ease.
Last time we got the charcoal we found it at a water filter supply co. by 50 lb sack.

Nicole - DVT's are quite serious, and a big bruise can trigger one. If you feel ANY symptoms, shortness of breath, radiating pain, PLEASE go to the ER. You can pay them $10.00 a month for the rest of your life if you need to.

It's funny how we don't do for ourselves what we would do in an instant for our creatures - I'm the same way.

On a side note - I've found that the blue mineral ice will help break up the bruise and help it heal faster.
