Yes folks we made it through Andrea, Barry and Chantal already. "WHAT?' you say, we already had the first three storms of the season? How come no one told us?
Well guys this just goes to show the season can sneak in on us when we are dozing and since they are quiet, they come like a thief in the night and we will be unprepared for the ATTACK when it does come and a bad one hits us.
PLEASE folks let's not get TOO comfortable!! I beg of you. BE PREPARED!
As I got my messages today there are two systems out there right now with the strong potential to GROW. One on each side of FLorida so MOST of us will be affected. The first of the two will be DEAN
THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED
JUST EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS HAS BECOME A LITTLE BETTER
ORGANIZED THIS MORNING. AN AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS
SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THIS AREA THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS DO NOT APPEAR ESPECIALLY FAVORABLE FOR
DEVELOPMENT...THERE IS STILL SOME POTENTIAL FOR THIS SYSTEM TO
BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS IT MOVES
WESTWARD NEAR 15 TO 20 MPH. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER DEVELOPMENT
OCCURS...THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY BRING SQUALLS TO THE WINDWARD
ISLANDS DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO.
The second of the two will be ERIN
A LARGE AREA OF CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS HAS DEVELOPED OVER THE
NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO IN ASSOCIATION WITH AN OLD FRONTAL
ZONE. SOME SLOW DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE DURING THE
NEXT DAY OR TWO AS IT REMAINS NEARLY STATIONARY.
I know, they too, may be like a scout or thief in the night for those yet to come. But whether it happens or not I want us to be prepared.
If you are in a target zone do as much for yourselves and your animals as possible. Always remember DO NOT forget yourself because if you are injured or dead YOU cannot help your animals. As told to me by a friend this past week end.
If you are outside a target zone, I ask that you make contact with at least one or two that you know in the target areas and make a special point of staying in touch with them.
As it happened with Linda York during Katrina I am so grateful she and I had been talking a lot during that time so that when it came time I knew it was not like her not to respond and I had a feel for how things were in that area and what her needs were.
Just daily chatting helps and please share your contact info.
I am also asking please for you all to pm me your updated contact info for my book not to be given out to anyone without your permission of course.
In times like these we have to trust someone with our information (even though we are warned never to give it out) so why not trust someone.
What I need is as follows
Name,
How many in house, (names if possible)
physical (and mailing) address, (after Katrina, many times we had to use the address to find folks with a GPS since the signs were down)
phone numbers (home and cell)
Also please if you can let me know how many animals you have and what kind.
I am compiling a notebook with this info so that if anyone is in need I can pass along what is needed
I am also double posting this in our Preparedness Thread as well.
If you live outside a target area I still would appreciate your info as well since you could get any number of things. but you can add how many, if any,animals you can take in just in case.
