Check out this place I went to for a Birthday dinner last night.... what a treat!

Here is some of the history on the 'now' restaurant which took over a year to renovate in downtown historic district of Apex, NC.....

The Peak City Grill & Bar has a rich history which began with its construction in 1905. One of the bricks in the wall is stamped with the date "May 8, 1905". The bricks at that time were made on site. The building has served as a hardware store, a general store, and a feed and mill store. Mules used to be sold in what is now the parking lot.

The original tin ceiling is still in place, with beautiful wall treatments and faux finishes by local artist Michelle Ishihara. The wood around the perimeter of the patio which serves as a bar counter is one of the original floor joists from the building--a true 2x12 heart pine plank, which is planed to show off the natural grain and color of the wood. All of the wood trim wainscotting and the bar were built on site by local craftsmen, as were all of the tables.

The church pews which provide the seating for the large booths are from a 100 year old church in Warrenton, North Carolina. They were sanded down from years of accumulated paint and varnish, then covered with a "paprika" stain and polyurethane. Hardwood floors and 16 feet high ceilings complete the overall effect. Highlighted with 40 feet long bar with a granite bar top, it is truly a magnificent building!

I had the Salmon on cedar plank (cooked on a block of wood), fresh aparagus and whipped potato. Dessert was NY cheesecake with a raspberry glaze! David had Pork Tenderloin with blackened beans and rice.

It was a long wait for a table, but worth it for this special treat...and I got to eyeball the gorgeous restored building. I like historical buildings and houses. David grew up in Apex, so knew the former history of the building as a store, etc. Then to end it, there was a jazz-blues musicians and singers. One song they did was "Georgia on My Mind", and David and I did a slow dance to 3 songs (while others watched  ) and smiled. Now for taking a cowboy out of the country and a horse gal off the farm for an evening on the town...it will be a memorable 49th birthday! Ohhh... and what delicious cheesecake!

We sat at one of the tables with chairs here in the center, just out of picture view.

Thanks to everyone who sent Birthday Wishes! I appreciate it as another year went by it seemed too fast!

:shocked :surrender

and while we waited for a table, david saw a bill/tab run up at the receptionist station to be $265. and asked me to verify what numbers he thought he saw on the computer screen....before he had a heart attack CHOKE... and we concluded it was a BIG party of people. He let me know how much cash he had on him then.... it was a bit pricey of a menu..... he concluded it was okay since it was my BD! what a great guy!

No ours wasn't that much! Doubt I will be eating there very often though, so it was a fun treat. And we came back here and watched the new paso video I had just edited together...so that was fun too.
