Ha! Good luck, Moniece! I waited for 3-4 weeks for Emi's colt to arrive.... parked the horse trailer against the pen/stall and figured I'd wait her out.... she had it 15 minutes before I drove all night to get back from the Asheville show last summer.... Greg managed to see him within minutes.... I slept in that rotten trailer for nearly a month watching for her to foal! LOL!

Yup, I slept under my pole barn for a month waiting for lady to foal. She waited until I was at work and my daytime watcher had left for vacation!
So, what signs has she given you?

She has been bag'd up for a week and yesterday developed these funnels to her nipples and no longer wanted me touching or looking at her bag.She has been acting off and holding her tail up since before evening feeding.I checked her a bit ago and she had shavings on her belly and all over one side so she had been flat out!Moniece

Well, I waited weeks for Candee....She bagged up and had me watching her like a hawk. Finally I could tell she was gettin pretty close. and I called a friend who breeds paints. I asked her to tell me the "final signs" and she told me they usually poop right before they drop the foal....so I checked it out...and no poop, so I ran real fast to get a ten mintue shower.....when I got back, the little bugger was laying on the ground! She waited unitl I left! GRRRR!
Good luck, Moniece!
Soooo, If I want to DELAY my TWO mares that are due during a show in April that I REALLY want to go to, I should get a scarecrow to SIT in front of their stalls and play a radio 24/7 until I get back? 8-) In additon, of course, to the house/farm/critter-sitter. I'm also debating cameras, foal alarms, etc. Geeesh, I really wanna go to that show.

How come you're not sleeping on a bale of hay outside her stall - like we do? :D

Im betting she's got more than a month yet  ;-) So ..we need pics of her bag..her butt and tail area, and sides to see how she looks..is she really soft and spongy around the tail head? stomach change yet..what was her last breed date..It will be interesting to see how foalings go this year with all the strange weather we are all having..We had a thunderstorm with LOTS of lightning and Thunder last night and a little snow..that does NOT happen in PA in January..Lightening??in JANUARY??
Did she have it over night???
I can't wait to see photos!!
BTW- I love hearing all the foaling stories. Looking forward to sleeping on those bales of hay next year! :bsmile

Bite your tongue Sheri lol no way has she got a month or more to go yet .Yes she is soft on the sides of her tail and you can see by the shape of her stomach that the baby is in position. Her bag is full..there is her bag then little funnels going to her teats wich are facing forward and she did bag up from the back first so the baby *should* be a filly. She bite scratches her stomach alot. She is moody with Chica and the goats and off to herself alot particularly in one corner when I let her out of her stall and run for the day.The poor girl looks just miserable. She is not actually due till valentines day but I don't see how she could possibly hold it that long.I did get some sleep lastnight because I could not wake up at 2am like I planed.I think she really likes it when I stay out with her alot like I did lastnight.Oops gotta go,phone.Moniece

Moniece it's unlikely she's going to have it in 24 hours unless the discharge from her udder is white in color. You can express a little liquid onto something dark in color to look at it. The butt caves in visibly when the hormones kick in to relax all the ligaments and things so they don't get injured during the birth. And supposedly they can hold that baby for a week if they don't like their situation so be sure she's happy. We got one of those headlamps that has a red light on it because for some reason it didn't seem to bother our mares. Two out of three had theres when we were on our ten minute break. The other let us watch. I think she wanted our presence to give her confidence. That was Brilliant's mom. So we saw the whole thing with his birth. It was so neat.

Keep a close eye on her. If she's biting her stomach she may be a touch colicy. I'd worry about founder as well but I'm a worry wart of the first order. I always imagine gloom and doom.
Keep us posted!

Yep Polly I thought about that but the way she still constantly eats hay and munches away at feed time makes me think not but i'm watching her close. The founder thing I do worry about more.I wish she'd just have her already so I could stop worrying so much. Thanks for the heads up!!Moniece

I'm really excited about this because her last cross to Hurculeo was really first rate. I expect this one will be as well. I can't wait for her to have it either.
