I'm not Terry, but are you talking about your new filly?
I think it is if a foal (sired or out of a gray) is born with brilliant, saturated color that they will most likely go gray. If a foal is born sort of dimmed down in color, silver legs (for bay, instead of black legs) or a pale reddish for a chestnut, they will shed darker and remain a color and not turn gray.
If Vence is GG for gray, all of his foals will gray. If he is Gg, it is a half/half chance of turning gray or staying color. Currently, there is no test for gray, but since gray cannot 'hide' you can usually tell through breeding records. Is Junior graying? If not, Vence would be Gg.

Yes my new filly...Yes Jr is already registered as a gray..but the colt from before I got Vence is bay and non graying as far as I know...(was not grayed as a two year old)
Misty is due in a few weeks so I guess that one WILL be gray right?? Or at least a high chance..
Thanks

Is Misty gray? If so, not necessarilly more chance. I have gotten more solids from gray to gray than I have from gray to solid.

It all depends on the genetics of the horse and which ones they like to "throw".
If one horse is GG, all foals will be gray. If both gray horses are Gg, they could have both GG, Gg and gg(non-gray) foals. Cindy's gray horses must have been Gg and both liked to give their "g" genes for non-gray.

Appy...does Vince have two grey parents? I did not think he was HZ for grey...but I don't recall the parents...
Foals born brilliant = 90% chance of going grey
Foals Born "fawn legged" = 90% chance of staying solid colored (no grey)
It seems to take Paso Finos longer to turn grey than some other breeds...also I have heard (don't know if its correct or studied) that grey-bound foals from HZ grey parents turn grey "fastest".
There is a dun stallion here who turned grey starting in his third year...it showed as grey normally does, at the root of the forelock and tip of the tail and then he developed grey hairs dispersed all over his body in about a 20-80% mix of grey to solid and the next year he just got greyer and now he is very grey...likely 90% white/grey hairs...He is a 222 son.
Ususally horses grey from "nose to tail" and inbetween and do so in stages of head to neck going grey and flank to tail first.
This filly is VERY shinny and has roan hairs in the flank and between her back legs already
ROAN hairs or white interspersed? OR...is it rabicano gene? White hairs fanning out from the fold of the flank to the side of the back of the belly and to about half way across the hip... Any bars of light hair on her tail head? Any white hair at tail tip or forelock root?
GOT PICS Mz. Camera woman? :D

Sounds like you have a chestnut rabicano... Capuchino is chestnut so yep..Vince cannot be HZ grey...he is HT grey...will produce 50% greys in theory... he could of course produce all solid offspring, or all grey offspring....but he seems to be establishing a normal pattern...how many offspring and how many greys?

So far 50/50 not counting my filly that I think will gray so if you count her 2 gray/1solid
