Thanks for asking, Terri. We had a LOVELY ride. I'm not riding MY horse at this time. I'm going to Rose's house and riding hers.
Today I rode Demarette, a 15.1 grey mare. She's very well trained and very calm...which is good because we had two things to contend with:
1. I have about as good balance as Humpty Dumpty (and, come to think of it, I tend to look a little like him too! Maybe that's part of the problem! *grin*)
2. Rose is just starting a green horse, so needs to just walk, walk, walk... which is fine with me!
We went all around her quarter section. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. The temperatures are SOARING up here (it's really, really weird), so we didn't even have winter coats! We rode in light fleece tops and wind breakers!
I am not the least bit nervous on that mare of Rose's. Love it.
We've decided that I'll take my mare over there (The Divine Miss Em) and Rose will ride her for the first while, just to be sure she's "back under the saddle" well enough that I'm not going to get in trouble. THEN we will be hitting the trails in the nature preserve that is half an hour from Rose's place.
So, anyway ... we rode for about an hour and then played with her last spring's babies for a while -- Rose touching them all over, me (a stranger) getting close and touching them too. Babies are so darn cute! One of the ones we were playing with is a full sibling to my coming-two-year-old filly. It's amazing how much alike they look -- though my Damita is OBVIOUSLY the better looking one! *grin*
And so ... that took my mind off tomorrow.
Da dum. Da dum. (Soundtrack from "Jaws"). Tomorrow is the day they operate on my spine. Hopefully I'll be feeling GREAT by Monday and will take the week off and go ride with Rose every day!
