Her name is Rosalita.When I saw her her name just came to me instantly right out of the air.She has not nursed yet.She has been looking for the the milk bar but she is tall and has not tries bending her neck down yet.I'm having the vet out this morning so if she has not figured it out yet i'm sure we can get it worked out together.Moniece

CONGRATS!!!!!!! I just know you are ecstatic.

Get her nursing quick, get the milk on your fingers if ya have to and get her under there. I went through this with Cascabel, she played around so much after she got up that she was too pooped to latch on - their blood sugar can drop fast. We ended up milking the mare and tubing it into Cas (that was ugly but worth it) after which she had a five minute power nap, then she got up, found that ninny and nursed like a pro. Just be prepared for some extra measures.

Congratulations to Moniece and Cola! I'm just soooo happy for you. I did not get your email, however! Could some one PLEASE help her out with this picture stuff? I don't know how to do it either :oops: .
I just spoke to her on the phone, and Momma and baby are fine. Vet should be there in about one hour or so, just to check things over. I'm sure he'll get little Rosalita nursing. :D :D :D

Congratulations!!! I know she's gorgeous!!!

Those first couple of hours can drive you crazy. Our big PPR mare's foal kept suckling her front arm pit. I tried to help out but both were very uncooperative. So I told mom "I'm going inside the house for fifteen minutes. If she is not suckling when I get back out you are going to be tied to a tree and I'm going to pick her up and and stuff her under there". Well sure enough she immediately started circling the foal and by the time I got back outside Adriel was suckling like crazy.

Little Pistachio was so tiny he couldn't reach without falling over so we had to pick him up and hold him under mom to suckle. After three meals he was strong enough to do it on his own. Brilliant was too tall also and MOM's teats were a AAA so he had fits trying to grab on. Also mom sprayed him all over his face everytime he came near her flank so we had to pick him up also to lower him so he could find the tiny little teat. Once he got hold of it though he was good to go also. But we got many grey hair with all three of them. Arwen on the other hand did everything right from the beginning and everyone loved her. She's so conceited!! Our first little princess.

In the past few years we have milked the mare and strained it into a bottle and fed the baby - sometimes before the baby gets up - just to conserve it's energy. Just do it for the first feeding.

Moniece, I know Terry told you to send the pics to me, but I will be leaving in about 15 minutes to go to the hardware store.
