This was my worst nightmare come true.. We found out today that my mom was the first person to alert authorities of the fire!! It had been burning for nearly 30 minutes before anyone came to the scene! I shudder to think what would have happened if they had been a few minutes later.. or my brother hadnt been on his way to town!!
This is the field beside the horse pasture...

This was my dads hay field.. nearly to the back of the pic with all the trees.. it was totally burnt...

This is the house that due to my brothers quick thinking was saved.. The fire was in this houses backyard.. and the bulldozer arrived...

Wow Jen, that WAS close!!!
Friends that live on the west side of Grantsville almost lost their homes to a big fire this summer. The big tractors disc'd a 100' wide fire break along the west side of town and the Wal-Mart wharehouse. Saved a lot of damage.
Horses will run back in a barn in a fire. It is their 'safety zone'. It might be a good idea to have an evacuation plan that takes them away from the barn.
Just glad it all turned out okay for you guys.

Wow that is very scary.
How come the man whose tractor caught on fire and started the whole fire didn't call it in?

Everyone is doing fine today. My brother said it was the scariest thing he has ever encountered. He said he really thought it was too late when he jumped in his car to get the firetruck.
I cant figure out why it took them so long to alert someone. My dad said he had heard they were trying to fight it themselves..?? With the drought like it was.. and the high winds.. it's hard to believe they would have thought they could have put it out without some kind of help. They probably paniced..
My mom called 911 and told them to get everyone they could out there.. that this fire was huge! She told them the whole country side was in flames!!! She then started calling all the local fire departments.

Well, on the bright side - the fire did do some good for the grass, it will come back like gangbusters now.

I keep hoping our rain would move south  Over 8 inches since sat - with more on the way
We had drought but now roads - including major ones have been closed due to flooding!
A week ago our yard crunched - now we can't keep it mowed ,and it isn't normal for it to be green like it is now! And mushrooms all over the place !
Mel is right - when you do get rain it will green up fast !

Jasfino, so glad it turned out okay! I know some folks who lost all but one horse in a fire, due to them all running back into the barn...the community came out and rebuilt the barn and donated horses to their lesson program and everything, but of course their "babies" were gone. First thing they did and the new barn was put all kinds of protocols in place to get those horses safe in the event of (shudder) another fire. Ya'll stay safe, now, y'hear?

No injuries that I know of... but my brother almost had a heat stroke battling the blaze. Even after it was out... the smoky ash in the air would burn your eyes.
A neighbor who lives down the road said she could step out her door and feel the heat of the fire!! The white house in the picture was smoke damaged.. and the owner will have to get someone to come in and do a clean up to eliminate the smell. He had a beautiful white fence.. that is totally melted now...
I am just so thankful and totally counting our blessings. It could have been so much worse!! Our whole neighborhood pulled together just in the nick of time.... to save the day!! :D
