I have sewn before, but I just purchased a new machine.

I am taking my hand at makeing curitns again. I would like to have some ideas on different styles.

You need Leila. She is the queen of sewing! She is the one that makes all the beautiful costumes (dresses) that all the lovely ladies on this forum wear

Don't forget my mother and I, we make costumes too. ;-)

I am working on a curtain project - I have some neat patterns. The only thing killing me is the cost of fabric!

They are a collaborative effort between me and my mother. Fun bonding time too! We have some doozies in the works. I hope to hit costume class with one of them next year. I have to work on Phoebe's headset first.

My mom is an awesome seamstress. She used to sew costumes for Busch Gardens when I was a kid.

Let me know if you have any questions and I can ask her.

She sewed my wedding dress for me and her own dress at the wedding, here are some pics from it. Sorry, pics are a little fuzzy.

Here is the front of the dress, if you can see the beading.

Here is the back, was like a corset.

And here she is with last minute sewing on her own dress.

My Mom had a dress shop at one time. People could bring her a photo of a dress and she would make the pattern out of newpaper. She really had talent.

I can't sew. Some people can't do somethings, thats what I can't do.

Nice stuff! I really have an appreciation for homemade things

I made all the curtins in my other house. I just went to Wally world and looked for the sale (1 per yard) & I found some really nice material. They were all really just straight curtains.
This house is going to be themed, Fall(livingroom), Winter(kitchen), Summer(Bath), Spring(our bedroom) & maybe antique in the other bedroom.
I had a thought to take some nice looking dish towels & make curtins out of them for the kitchen.

Wow! Those dresses are really something! Great work! I used to sew "garb" when I was in the SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism, but now all I do is sew up my 3 dogs' stuffed animals when they tear them up, which is all the time....

We made a silk (okay, acetate) capirison for a work horse one time, for an SCA themed wedding, but it was pretty simple. Always wanted to do that again, it was so pretty in the sunlight..... But nothing like those dresses, wheeew!

I used to sew all the time until someone broke into our cabin and stole my electric scissors. I never was any good at cutting out paper dolls!! I was so angry I quit sewing totally. I did find a new pair at the Goodwill though and need to start sewing again. I am in total awe of the Pros though. I'm too impatient to do the really complex stuff. We did make our goofy felt helmet hats though. I want to get a pro to make a really nice one based on our prototype which is admittedly rough!

Goofy homemade black felt hats over helmets. They were a serious pain to make!

Kyle's makes him look like a drunk!! But we refuse to ride without a helmet and noone makes a hat for a helmet anymore because the ones they did make were totally dorky and made you look like you were hydro cephalic!

Ain't that the truth! But your helmet hats (hel-hats? hatmets? helmhats?)are nice! I'm going to try that right away - it looks so jarring to be turned out in a nice traje otherwise, looking "spanish" (or "latin"), and then there's that round, modern thing perched up there. I'll send pictures, but give me a week to geterdone....maybe you could give some hints? :D
