Sorry I didn't lighten them up a bit. Everyone (including me) was so excited to see them! I think she is probably a lot lighter than that in real life because you can barely see mom!!
Congratulations!!

Okay, hit refresh. I lightened them up a bit. I don't think it changed the color, just lightened up the whole pic - now I can see Cola too!! What a good mommy. Moniece you are a lucky girl! I hope she has brought you immense joy after what you've been through recently! What a wonderful gift!!

What a doll! She looks like Jazz did when he was first up and walking -- only he was a lighter shade of gold. She's a cutie!

OOOHHH, finally, thank you so much for helping with the pics!!! Brings tears to my eyes. Moniece is not answering her phone right now, so I assume she's gone to meet the vet. One of us will post asap, with what I'm sure will be a good report!

Monice...does she have any white on her face? Is she a solid pally?
I love the first day or two when they have this "pinkish" aura about them!

I remember the first time I saw a palomino newborn...I thought something was wrong with the color!
She sitll looks scrunched up from being inside, but she is beautiful. I would like to see Day3 pics when she has opened up and filled out a bit more.
Moneice, you are so lucky.

Yes,she has a teardrop star.It starts right about eye level and goes down.I would say it's medium sized.I can not believe I got so lucky. My throat is sore and I have had tears in my eyes for an hour.It has been my dream to have a palomino paso since 1988.I feel like the luckiest woman alive right now.She already has spirit though so I know I am going to have my work cut out for me with this one.She could barely stand yet and tried to kick to tell me to stop with the iodine and jumped around in my arms when the vet gave her the tet. shot and enema.I can hardly believe how lucky I got!!Moniece
Oh vet says both are healthy and good and she has not nursed yet but he feels since she's looking in the right area she'll find it.I am going to go buy a bottle in case. We're cutting it too close to the 12 hours for my likeing(sp.)Anything you all can think of will be a help since I am way over tired.Moniece

I had a friend who's colt nursed, and then quit nursing. A little peanut butter on the roof of the mouth stimulated the right action for the foal...then they bottle fed some milk (make sure you get a nipple for lambs, they're soft and longer). Then on to the teat...and he's 15 hh now!

lovely foal.... congratulations.

OMG, I don't let them go past 3 hours, every hour that goes by without food is dropping that blood sugar and asking for problems like seizures (yes siezures - hypoglycemia can do this!) If this scares you it should! Please at least fill a bottle and get something in her, once she has a taste I bet she tries harder.
Gosh darn it, I'm gonna have to breed my Bunny here pretty darned soon! What do Palominos typically do ...do they darken or lighten after birth?
Jazz was born a light golden cream shade of palomino and is now shedding out a darker, reddish golden shade at two months. I've read they usually darken but rarely go lighter.
Anyone have a palomino get lighter with time?

it's also amazing how much stronger they get when they have eaten, will probably sleep, but they get very tired getting up and rooting around. Baby won't have to work as hard to get the milk out of the bottle.

Monice...don't wait any longer...time is a wasting...get her to a teat...OR...milk the mare and bottle feed....This is precious time and the clock is ticking...they only absorb anti-bodies in the colostrum as long as the intestinal villi remain OPEN to the size of those antibodies... do NOT wait any longer, I guarantee that filly is hungry, she needs colostrum to help clear her meconium, and if she ends up not passing her IGG, it could cost you a bundle....so please do not wait a moment longer...
EDITING TO ADD.... post any trouble you are having, so we can help you. Does the mare act like her udder hurts? Is she trying to help the foal nurse? Is she stepping around and trying to get the foal to her udder...or is she grunting or squeeling whn the filly comes too close?
Dribble some milk on your fingers, let that filly get a taste, then guide her on over to the milk bar.....let us know if we can help you... get someone to hold that mare if you need to....
CarolU

I agree with Terry...12 hours is plenty long enough to wait. I'd milk the mare and get the cholostrum into the filly. NOW

Is there anyone in the area that is experienced with babies? Any friends that can come over and help you. You need to lead that baby to the teat and help her figure out what to do. You will need someone to hold the mare, someone to help hold the baby and get her to the teat and someone to take the teat and squirt it in the babie's mouth and get her to take it.

MONICE...............Coreen and Terry are right..this is WAY too long...milk that mare and bottle feed that baby now...The only foal I had that did not nurse in an hour (I have had almost 20) was Jerry and you know he died at 2 days and was a dummy foal...get colustrum in that baby....and make sure you IgG test it as soon as the vet says it is possible..she is to beautiful to play around with....Terry and Correen and I have had alot of babies and Coreen worked for a hospital....dont sit and watch...MOVE YOUR ARSE NOW!!! keep us posted..

I misread the first time I read her name... Rosarita is a brand of refried beans...(CA girl)...my fave brand for home-made tacos and burritos.
I think Lita will be a nice nickname...

Well Moniece she is just lovely. She looks just like her full brother Danza. You should feel gifted...you got exactly what you wanted.

She is gorgeous, Moniece! Congratulations! Is that shavings I see  You might want to pull those out and put down straw. I've heard of babies colicing by eating the shavings. It's probably just my bleary eyes, too many hours at work today, but I just had to comment on your GORGEOUS filly!!!!!!!!
