I feel off a horse today and injured my ribs. Think a couple may be cracked and i also learned i would much rather ride an big horse than a small one.
Took a shower from that and walked out side where Ellis and our son were feeding up when they called me to come.
one of my mares was down and cast close to the turn of the lane so the fence was in her way to get up. Got her up but she was pretty winded and sore that much was obvious.
I made a phone call to make sure important folks knew what was going on. Well that turned into colic, stress related i am sure but we have been up all night long. Let me tell you when you cannot breathe and walk at the same time it is not fun.
I have a 9 am appointment with Sherriff Gootee so my son and daughter in law are coming to stay with my girl to keep a close eye on her and the rest of the wild bunch.
She is tired too I am sure so please just say a pray for us both. Thanks in advance.

OUch!!! Sorry to hear about your fall and the mare.
When Kyle broke three ribs slipping and falling onto the tailgate of the pickup in the rain we put DMSO gel on the area, put seran wrap over it and then iced it for a full day. He was pain free in 9 days. The last time he broke ribs (a trip in the dark and hit the edge of the shower) he was in pain for three months so we're sold on the DMSO and ice for sure.
Let us know how the mare is doing!!

OH, wishing you both best wishes. I hope your ribs heal up quickly. Although somehow I don't think you're gonna let it get in your way anyway! I hope your mare is fully recovered this am.

Sending a prayer that you both start feeling much better! And that you can get the rest you need.
Keep us updated on YOU and the mare.

Ouch, indeed. When it rains, it pours, huh? Hope the mare is okay - casting must be their worst nightmare.
The DMSO wrap sounds interesting, but I always wonder about using a product with no testing on humans. Or has there been? Gives me a horrible taste in the mouth! Have to wonder about long term effects, but if it was that effective on ribs....and we all know how effective it is on equines....

OMG! You poor girl! What Carol said...we are too old for falling off horses. I certainly hope you fell better quick, and that your mare is just stressed a little and bounces back. Thoughts and hugs going out to you.

Not that you need to be sitting at a computer right now, but do let us know if you and your mare are okay....like Carol said, falling off is for young folk - they still bounce back up when they hit - we just lay there and groan. Sure hope you recover quickly!

Leila... I hope you are feeling better today.
I hope the mare is also doing well...
NOW..do NOT leave us "hanging" like that..... tell us why you would rather ride a bigger horse than a smaller one.... do you want to be FARTHER from the ground?
Cracked ribs can sure hurt...keep your elbows "in".... I have suffered from those before and the pain is horrible.... what ever you do...do NOT sneeze! Stifle it and grab a pillow to hold onto!

Thank you all for your thoughts.
But I want you to know I was truly blessed and honored to be chosen to care for Reina in her golden years. Yes chosen. Reina actually belonged to Barb Preiss, I never changed her papers because Miss Barb loved her so much. She has always belonged to Miss Barb and nothing will change that. She was Miss Barb's "first paso" that started her in the breed, if i remember correctly.
Thanks to Miss Barb, Reina gave us many happy times. We loved Reina very very much.
I want to say thank you Miss Barb for allowing me to be a part of Reina's life.

Just goes to show what love, good nutrition and good vets can do for the lifespan of horses. Perhaps we rode with her daughter. Is there a Reina Jr.??? This mare would probably be about 18 or 19 now.

This is my little dog Chayla (chAA-lah)
Anyway when i forst got Blessing and he was down with West nile (before i actually owned him) Chayla is the one who helped me get him up, and keep him moving. She stayed right there.
Every single time one of ours was not feeling well and I stayed up with them, I was not alone, chayla was always there.
Thursday when my mare Reina got sick, Chayla was there. Without going into great detail without crying again I want you to know how much one animal can love another, even if the breeds are different.
Reina was and always will be an elegant, gentle, sweet queen of a lady. She loved without fail.

Leila...I am so sorry - I just saw this! Reina was quite lucky to have such a sweet person like you to care for her in her remaining years....take comfort in knowing you gave her your best, and any horse appreciates that.
I hope your ribs are on the mend and feeling a bit better today.
