It really depends on the size of the pattern. There is no standard size. So basically you would/could have a specific arena record to meet or beat.

A poles course is always the same size, so you can compare a poles run to any other pole run

It was her first time,
So she was in a qualifying group.
At the end she was bummed up to one of the best divisions.
;-)
So yes she ran each course pretty much as best she could.

And she didn’t even open him up.
He wanted to go faster but she was being careful as it was hot, and the air was very heavy!

Way to turn and burn, Abbie! Next time you visit you and your gray boy are going to have to hit the local gymkhana to show those QH's how it's done.

Why thank you everyone..... :D

The pic with the time was the "hairpin"...I think that was what is was called....I got 9 seconds (approx) as you can see. Best time was 7. It was difficult to do any runs because by the time I could let him out just a tad, we were already preparing to stop. I scared the girls at the gate every time because he would stop RIGHT at the fence.
I liked doing the "Texas Barrel" because they gave you more room to get a running start  .

I got a 2nd & two 5th's.....not too bad for our first time with NO prep work. He turns on a dime...all...by...himself.

We're just doing it for fun. I think he likes it.

I did get alot of stares, and one, "what wrong with his legs?" from a young girl....but a few of the more serious barrels racers who've been around since I was a wee one, asked me all about him. I proudly told them he was a Paso Fino.

Kim said the announcer made a nice comment about him upon my second entrance in the ring...and when I was warming up, he announced..."Whoa-ho folks, you all got some competition today!! Look at this gray go!!"

I already can't wait for the next one! I'm hooked! I've been wanting to get back into this for years & years....

I don't know if any of you noticed, but in that last pic I lost my stirrup & not one of his hooves are touching the ground. This pic kind of displays how we were "arguing" about when to stop. I voted before the gate.

It's in Raynham, Sharon....off of 104. It was SO much fun!!!!

I originally entered my Morgan too, but I pulled her before the first class since she practically walked into the warm up arena on two legs. Between the bucks, rearing, and calling, I decided to work on her much needed lady-like behavior in between Novio's runs, instead of the barrels. She'll probably be running them next time though. I can't wait!

Wow!
Way to go, Abbie! bet he makes you wonder what he would of done if you'd turned him loose, huh? ;-)

TrueStepPaso
08-27-2007, 08:13 PM
Ya....blown through the fence.

It's hard to turn him loose because he's actually freakishly fast, and before I can even think of giving him his head, we're already at the first barrel. The only time I let him go was after the third barrel in the "Texas Barrels", and after 3-4 strides, we're already at the point of needing to stop.

We need work....we'll get it. :D

So much more fun than looking at the ring shots... flying... looks like the stirrup was not the only thing you were about to loose.... if he'd dropped his head to buck looks like the bridle (in the last shot) would have dropped too....!!!

You need to do an article and send it to PFHW along with all the photos... we need some action shots like that.... send it to other magazines also.. get the paso promotion out there... your working for it...claim it..!!

TrueStepPaso

 Yup, Rusel..I did loose my stirrup....good eye! He was kind of hopping (notice all 4 hooves above the ground) to a last second stop. Thankfully, Novio doesn't buck, but I was surprised by the position of the bridle when I saw that shot...the purchase on the bit pushed it forward, but I think it also did that because I keep the bit "loose" in my horses' mouths. No wrinkles, just kept at the corner, so they can "hold" it themselves. This causes a sort of loose bridle, but my horse are comfortable not having a bit already jammed up in their mouth causing constant contact.
Of the years I've been riding with bridles like that, I've only had one incident where it came off....my mare rubbed hers off on a tree during a trail ride once. Thankfully, she just stood there.

Thank you for your push to write for the PFHW....I may just do that! ;-)
