That's right folks, we are growing by leaps and bounds, and this website is getting around 3 million hits a month.

So I had a chat with our web guy today and we are going to be making some upgrades. He suggested that since we will be doing that, we might as well add some new features and spruce the place up a bit. 8-)

He asked for suggestions from the users on what kind of features you would like to have, and what kinds of problems you might be experiencing that we can fix.

Would you all be interested in having a Member Photo Gallery?

What else?

All I ask is that you please keep in mind some of us are still on very slow dial up .I have problems now with some of the ads on the pages..especially the flash..it slows me down and actually will not let me 'stop' downloading the page.If I try to post a reply and that ad is on the page..it wont post..will time out..I try to 'stop' as soon as the page is loaded enough and then I can reply..its just a pain to deal with..
Dont tell me I need to upgrade..I cant..there is no cable here and no dsl..and I am not paying for sattelite..

Lori, what kind of "spruce ups" are available? I doubt many of us have any idea of what the options might be.

I'm not really sure on them myself. But we are looking into it.

We might change the face of the home page and forum a bit also.

But if any of you use another forum and you like a particular feature, we can look into getting it here. Some things might be easy to do, and others not so easy.

Well, if we're going to wish, For those like Abejita that are on dialup, is there some way he could fix it so there is a link maybe to a shadow website that would not have all the time consuming space eating features on it that would make it easier for those folks? I don't know...it won't hurt to ask....I doubt it, but if we're dreaming.....lets check it out.

I doubt it, but I will ask. I've never seen/heard of anything like that available.

That problem right there is why I contacted the Web host, and he took a look and said I had a ton of traffic, and that we needed to get a dedicated server w/all the bells and whistles, so he suggested a full overhaul while we are at it.

What about a cool video thing right when you enter the website! Kind of like what Showtime does...

Oh and I have always thought this was cool!
Its a "Paso Fino Stallion finder" I love how it is set up with the little boxes with the picture and the name and you click them for more info.'

I also like how the "Paso Fino breeders" Boxes are set up and then click for more info.

Also what about adding some type of "Pedigree finder". Where we can look up the pedigree's of pasos. (That may be alittle more difficult..)

That makes the site really slow for the dial-upers.

Image Tamer. It's something that no matter WHAT size the pic is, when someone posts it, it automatically resizes it to a certain size (you determine the size). Has been REALLY helpful on my board.

Quick reply, it's a small box at the end of the topic that instead of hitting Post Reply, you just type there and hit quick reply. Only issue is there are no smilies with this option.

Maybe make a separate forum for just pics, instead of a photo gallery. That way ppl can post their pics there and it won't affect the dialup users as much (I don't think)

While in topic, or in a forum, a link to another forum so you don't have to go to the main forum page to skip to another forum.

An option to "subscribe" to a topic even if you have't replied on it.

Mark all forums read would be nice. So you don't have to visit each forum and select Mark Forum Read.

The above are all just suggestions from things I have on my board that ppl love.

Isn't that at the bottom on the left, too? "Watch this topic" or something?

Same here :-?
i have DSL at work but my down time is the summer when the board is slow. at home i have dial up and i could just KICK it sometimes. either that or THROW it out the window. picture threads are almost impossible over the week-end, as much as i would like to see everyone's threads.

How about a SPELL CHECK when typing a post?!?! :D

One thing I like on another board is that when you place your cursor over the thread topic, the first few lines of the post come up. Really helps you decide whether or not you want to read a thread without having to open it. Check out FLAHORSE.com BB if you need to know what I mean.

WISH LIST:

1. Get away from using flashplayer for chat. It is heck (yes I said "heck" not the other) for anyone that is not using the latest OS platform and for anything that is not DSL or higher. There are other chat programs that work for EVERYONE (hint, hint--I can get some great chats going when I come back from my thumb sucking vacation in a year or two). Flashplayer wants to refresh and is constantly downloading which overloads slower speed connections and hogs up RAM. Look at campfire site for ideas. Works on anything--I've tried it with just about the worst and the best.

2. Get a way to post graphics rather than linking to other host sites. I'm blocked at work from most sites. I like the method of optional downloads directly from the PC. There must be a way to handle graphics as other sites don't consume the time it takes to download like APF does on dialup.

3. What PH said.

4. Find a way to embed pedigree tables for the FC forum. I am not keen on doing what pasopedigree.com or what pasoregistry.com did. They took the PFHA database, without permission I might add, and simply downloaded it onto their site. That's plain wrong on several fronts. The database in convoluted, inaccurate, difficult to navigate, difficult to query comprehensively. I prefer people just write in their pedigrees for discussion.

Re: Spell Check

If you have Google Tool bar it has a spell check button that works on any forum

OR if you worry about spyware or google conflicts with other things you use you can download ieSpell, I have been using it for months and have had no conflicts at all. It works great when I remember to use it. It is free

Mozilla Firefox also spell-checks every forum you're on.

I find it is faster then IE and have less conflicts with other forums.
