Last weekend I washed Katie (she's a pinto) with Cowboy Magic Yellow Out. I sprayed WOW Whitener on her tail and mane. Her tail whitened up a little, but it's still sort of drab. The top half is bright white.

I think the bottom half of her tail is stained beyond hope (kind of light yellowy brown). Anyone know of a product that is safe and works?

Thanks!

I've had good results with a shampoo called "White-n-brite". It's the purple stuff that you leave on for 10 min or so, then wash out. The longer you leave it in the better it does.

A Puerto Rican friend uses dilute clorox and says it works really well. I've only used it on a goat and it didn't seem to hurt the hair at all. If you have to use betadine on white haired animal the clorox will turn it clear colored again.

Buy some laundry BLUEING. Wet the mane/tail, work it in, rinse it off. It's very cheap and the same stuff as in the whitening shampoos/rinses you can spend a fortune on.

I remember this stuff from the "old" days. Will it make the hairs brittle and break them? I guess if its the same stuff in the whitening shampoos, it's okay?

We always used shimmering lights shampoo, you can buy it at walmart or where ever, it is people shampoo. can also try mixing baking soda with your reg shampoo, helps sometimes.

I haven't had any problems with the Blueing making hair brittle or dry.

Clorox works pretty good as does blueing. Blueing maybe a little better. I would not use either on a regular basis but if you just do it once or twice and then condition after you should not have a problem with drying or brittleness. Mane and tail is a good leave in conditioner.

I knew a lady years ago that used bluing on her mostly white app. One time we turned her purple. Other then that one episode it does work nicely

I soak my geldings white mane and tail, Very very thickly with Quick Silver, I mean really thick dark purple! Barely sudzy! (i go thorough alot of shampoo) I leave it on for a good 15 20 minutes( if you bleach the tail, do not leave it on this long, it WIll turn purple if you bleach!) I tie his tail up while it sits, cause he swishes it, and then has white streaks on his body. But his tail glistens like white and clear glass afterwards.

It might take a few washings, maybe do it a few days in a row to get the stains out. Especially for a mare, they pee on their tails.

Is this the product you use?

That's okay, I just wasn't sure whether they made other product, also. So, this is a dumb question, but can you explain how you tie up his tail? I guess it has to be high enough so it doesn't swish on his body?
