R.I.P. Jake

Our kitty Jake was very sick this morning (urinary tract blockage). I took him to the vet first thing this morning and the vet called this afternoon to say that he passed away during surgery. They tried to revive him, but couldn't. My kids (especially my daughter) are very upset. He was a great cat.

Here is a pic of him (he was a very big kitty) laying in the middle of the kitchen, as usual.

I'm so sorry. It's been a serious problem forever.

Today's cat food are much better to help prevent it. We even had a male cat that was surgically turned into a female because he had so many blockages.

I am so sorry. I know it is hard to lose a good animal friend. You did the best you could for him. Maybe you kids could do something in honor of him at the funeral like write a poem or plant a tree. He looked like a very sweet kitty.

I lost my Timmy to the same thing. By the time we knew he was sick (barn cat) he was too sick. He was an old cat and it was just too much for him.

We and our three kitties are thinking of you - we have them on special urinary track food, because one of the males (don't remember which) had a problem years ago.
It is our hearbreaking when we lose our companions.

I'm sure sorry. He was a beautiful cat and looks like he was well loved and cared for. It's never easy to loose them, they'er a member of the family. I find that the medium and long haired cats are the worst for UTIs...I use the acidic hairball paste on them and it really cuts down the incidence of UTIs.

Thanks everyone, for your kind words. He was a good cat. We had a bunch of people over on New Years and he was lying in the middle of the kitchen floor and my dad was pushing him around like a dust mop! Jake was so easy going, never got mad. Must have been all those rides in Cheyenne's shopping cart when he was a kitten.

We will miss him so much. He always came into the kitchen for a saucer of milk every morning. Today was the first time he didn't meet me in the kitchen for my morning coffee and his morning milk. :cry: :cry: :cry:

His picture reminds me of one my best childhood cats, "Ken K. Kitty", he was also extremely sweet tempered and kinda large. My friends and I used to dress him up in baby clothes and push him around in a little carriage, and he never once fussed.
