Found this on one of my group emails and thought it might be a good use for old panty hose.

Bandaging with Panty hose

Panty hose is an awsome last bandage. You can use it like Vet wrap and then
tape it down. It is also more flexable then vet wrap and breaths more.
When Raz had to have so many bandage changes on his leg from Pythiosis, the
cost was absolutly increadiable.
Someone suggested use Panty hose instead of the vet wrap.
Here are some of the hard to bandage areas that panty hose really works.
A chest injury. Cut the croth out of a pair of panty hose. Cut out the feet.
Bandage the chest with what ever and barely tape to hold in place.
Put each front leg in the leg of the panty hose and then stretch the crotch
over the horse head. The waist band goes around the next and front of the
neck. It snugs the bandage tight over the chest. The horse can flex and put
his head up and down and that bandage stays put. Extra queen size works
great.
for a leg injury, use like vet wrap or for a horse that will not leave leg
bandages alone! Raz, put the panty hose leg over the bandages and tape at
the top and bottom.
A panty hose wrap on a tail, will not cut off the circulation. Clip the top
of the tail wrap and then braid in some hair with that clip to hold it in
place while taming or transporting or breeding.

We've also used the short calf high hose under SMBII's to prevent chafing. We put on the hose, a thick sock, then the boot and can ride for hours without problems.

Old pantyhose serve many purposes. Cut off one leg at the knee, put a bar of soap in it then tie it to your water faucet at the barn.

Every time you need to wash your hands. VOILA... instant soap.

Also an old leg of panty hose works great to tuck a mare's tail into when you breed - just tape off the top and the whole tail is out of the way ;-)

Great ideas!! Especially the chest bandaging tip... I wonder if that could be used on other hard to bandage areas like hocks and knees... bet it could... hmmm

Here recently...panty hose has found to help aleviate head shaking in some head-shaking syndromed horses. I first saw it used on a Paint horse, out on the trails of Greenland Open Space, and I stopped the lady to ask why. She said the horse rarely if ever head shakes with the panyhose covering over his nostrils, mouth & chin... but if you take it off, he will resume head shaking behavior.

Like you, Edurne, when I left working for others, I also left pantyhose (except for formal, long skirt affairs). After I had my hips replaced and DAVID had to try to put pantyhose on me once, I gave them up COMPLETELY and FOR GOOD! *grin*

But maybe a person ought to go and purchase a few pair of queen size just to keep in the barn!

My grandmother made wonderful rugs out of hose - crocheted rugs. You can dye the hose also. Wonder if Goodwill or Salvation Army sells them used for use on a horse. Great ideas here.

Earl I don't even want to ask how you know they are your wife's panty hose??

A male friend wears them under his golf slacks on cold days as light weight long underwear. He's about 6'6 so I guess he gets extra tall?????
