I was board, so i was looking up different breeds on line, and I was looking at an Akhal Teke website. and there was this picture. (below), the horse in the back ground to me looks like a paso!
What do you think??

Looks like an Akhal Teke to me! They are light built, have lusterous coats and DON'T gait!

I saw a whole herd auction off in Fort Collins Colorado shortly after the Chernobyl disaster.... when the Akhal Teke was very rare and threatened for their survival. Many were irradiated from Chernobyl...

here are some from that sale....

Yes, I thought so too. (horse in the background - paso)

Isn't it funny how people and their animals resemble each other.....Long legged, thin, head up......

I love Akhal Tekes. They are really neat horses.

This will make you real sad Mel..the high selling horse was $3k.... they sold most for $500 - $600 .....nobody wanted them... cowboys here laughed at them... they were narrow, and lanky for the most part...not like stock horses they use here for ranch work. Some went to California... a few stayed in Colorado, I think there was about 50 head....they were raised by two brothers who brought them to Colorado.

It was a sale where I *should* have bought one of the earth's most rare horses..... Now, the Nez Perce Indian tribe is crossbreeding them to Appaloosas to get back the speed & type they lost....

I must say in the sale shots, that is the nicest Teke I've ever seen first picture - they are usually tall gangly things - that looks really nice. :D

Those are some of the most awesome horses....did the Nez Perce actually buy the dispersal sale? Don't tell us they went to the knacker?!

Nope..that sale was in the early 1980's that I took those pics. Some *may* have gone to slaughter..I cannot say....but the sale was at CSU at the university arena...so not likely any kill buyers were there...

I saw on TV that the Nez Perce were doing the crossbreeding maybe two or three years ago....

Well, I should have picked up on that; after all, Chernobyl was a while ago...duh.. :-?

One still sees articles about the Nez Perce breeding program, but I guess Rome wasn't built in a day. Hm...Akhal Teke crossed with Paso Finos?.....nah.
