I've coordinated All Star Agility Dog Shows for our annual Winter Fair here in Bozeman, Montana for several years and have now ended up on a committee for "Battle of the Breeds" with horses. The events have a major Western emphasis, but here's the list:
1. 4 minute trot or gait race--no loping or galloping
2. Western Jumping (Down and back over 3 jumps set as a slalom)
3. Barrel Racing
4. Short Reining pattern with sliding stops, lead changes, etc.
5. Ring race (6 rings are attached through poles and riders carry a crop sized dowl to scoop them up)
6. Hide race--someone sits on a tarp while the horse drags them down and around a barrel and back
Riders can take their scores from their top 4 events. They are hoping to have 12 different breeds competing so urban folks, like myself, can learn more about the different breeds. It would be super to have a Paso Fino that could do all this. There will be a breed demo after with Paso's so they'll be there at least.
