Phantom my old man is hurt... I just leased him out too! Sucks..
Barn owner introduced 2 new horses to the herd and Phantom is the top dog... he was trying to get the 2 new horses in ck and the fighting began.. Fences broke, big bites outta butts ect. You know the usual intorduction stuff..
Anyway Phantom musta been running after one or being run and gouged his top brow of his eye w/a tree branch or sompin..
Anyway new Leasee found him all swollen up like a baseball, puss coming out and eye swollen shut..
I get out tehre all worried, Barn owner is good at vet stuff, we cleanedh im out good, but couldnt tell if it had punchured his eye so we called the vet..
Long story short, 30mins later, and $300 poorer my boy will heal. No eye injury that we see, just a really bad cut and deep. Antibiotics, butte and cleaning ofr the next week..
here he is just after the vet last night..

Cnat tell because of the angle of the pic, but his eye lid was swollen up to the size of a plum.. just so sad.. He has tons of gouges all over hsi body... We hope he submits to this Alpha mare and we have no more issues. Barn owner is going to keep better eye on them... Well see..
Pray he heals and we have no more horse wars!

Poor boy!
You are lucky it wasn't his eye!
I've already had to deal with treating two horses that had cuts to their eyes, small cuts so the eye is ok now.
Seems like the person leasing should have paid since he was in her care....unless you guys worked something out in your contract.
Maybe she will offer to pay or at least half.

Yeah, our lease agreement says if Phantom is in her preseance and supervision or she is riding him then she pays 80% and I 20%, however if he is hurt by himself in the pasture owner is responsible.. ME>....
Not the usual lease I know, but she is new to horses, really just wants to learn on him and get educated on horses, she isnt around him 24/7 just when I am there so 3x's a week at most and she is paying all the board fees and a little extra too.. So he and I are the teachers..
She is very very nice, I wish she would offer but she isnt obligated to. Per our lease...
I am just greatful he is will be ok. Alteased so far his swelling has gone waydown and is lookin better... :D

that sucks..any lease I ever had dealings with the horse was insurred and the leasee pays all vet bills...what about colic surgery if she feeds him wrong? Or he gets into her feed room? YOu pay that too? Better rethink your contract..glad he is doing better though thats the good thing

He is boarded at my barn owners place where I board. She doesnt feed him at all... Only rides him when I am there and we hang out... That is about it, trail rides 1x a week if we can manage it.. Believe me I had it in the contract she is responsible for all, however given her limited access to him she didnt feel that fair so I did the 80%-20% split when she is with him...

So sorry about his eye!! I love the pic of him in the snow!
Did the B.O. do any slow introduction of horses over the fence (pasture them next to each other?). I would talk to her about future intro's. Pasture next to each other first and introduce one at a time. Not fair for him to have to get used to 3 horses at once.....esp another dominant horse. I know its water under the bridge, but just to prevent future problems.
