Took Lady G for our first ride since purchasing her. She is extremely smooth. She has an incredibly fast walk. She is used to being ridden in bit but I just used the Paso Headset on her with no control problems. She really likes to move out.
Part way through the ride, I moved her to the back. She was nervous about the other horses and when they stop, we came to an INSTANT stop. We stayed in the rear until almost the end. I thought she was tired.
Moved her to the front and we were off. I was told that she will just keep going and I think they were right. I think she may be my retirement horse.
I retire at the end of May.... going a couple of years early. I think she may be what I was looking for.
When I had the vet out to do float her teeth Thursday, I asked to rate her as far as body condition... she is a 4. I have had horses worse, but then I had a lot of hay then . As I am sure most of you know the drought hit almost everyone with the hay situation and then you have all the acres that went to corn.
It will take longer to get her in shape.. Saturday morning we had our first killing frost. She was shivering while eating her grain. I put on a sheet and that stopped her shivering. I normally don't blanket my horses ( they would be rated 10 or 11... yes I know the scale only goes to nine.)
This should help her from expending so many calories on just keeping warm.
Along with being on pasture, she is getting crumbled beet pulp, a small amount of grain, and Fast Track. I will shortly be adding Rice Bran as I have had great results with that in the past.
Next spring I will show before and after pictures.
