Just thought I'd show our two new horses for work - The first is a 4 y/o Belgian named "Miller Time" We'll call him Miller - hope he works, he's a donation. He just arrived Friday and is SWEET!

The second guy is a little Paint named Zip. He is a prankster and doing pretty well - he'll be my guy because I can't stand getting up on the big ones anymore. He's a lease to us for the school year. I love his face.

I like the paint!
I bet Miller could/would be intimidating to a crowd (that knows nothing about horses)
What kind of saddle are those. Since you stay on their backs for a long period what type of saddle pads do you use, and what precautions do you take to protect from back soreness?
I only ask as it seems to be an issue with many horses that are ridden for hours per day

Yeah they do look nice. Do you do any special training for them to get ready to handle crowds, cars, guns, etc.? What do you do?

Both look like really nice guys!!! I think mounted police are so effective. People love the animals and the police have that elevated view of everything that's going on. I wish there were more mounted police.
Four of ours paso finos are posse certified and the funny thing is even though they are small the way they move their feet is quite intimidating to people on the ground. I've had people refuse a ride because they think the horse is out of control because of the way it moves. Other horses can also be intimidated by those rapid little tooties! We really enjoy the training courses we went to for volunteer posse. We got to go to one with the Tampa mounted posse and two regular mounted police officers work with us so it's a great experience. If any of you have a mounted posse in your area it's a really helpful thing to join and fun also.
