We live in Florida. I just got my notice for my yearly home insurane. We have a trailer and been insurance since it was new about five years ago.
When I got the new bill I almost fainted. The insurance has gone up $800.00. They had said they were going up some but $800.00? Wow!
I think, but not sure that the state has now put a stop to increase home insurance. Mr. E. called our insurance man and he said that no one was writting any policys on mobil homes. Should I believe him? He said to stay with them because of that. But paying almost $2000.00 a year for home insurance when you are old and don't have much money. I just don't see having to pay all that much.

Does anyone have any suggestions? What about Farm insurance in Florida?
Thanks guys. I depend a lot on all the good information you can come up with. You all are the best for information from horse to mens backsides. :D

We are going through the same thing here. Most insurance companies are not writing any new policies...home or trailer. If you have a company that is covering you for everything, count your lucky stars! Most of the ones here have kicked everyone into the windpool, and are only covering policies for flood, fire, vandalism and such. Wind is a separate policy and very expensive. Some people in Long Beach, MS are paying upwards of $4000 a year between the two policies.
You can check with farm insurance companys, but bet you will find the story the same with them...IF they are writing policies.
Those of us on fixed incomes need some relief!!

Thanks Linda, that is about the same thing the insurance agent said. No new policies and that most all of the insurance co. have moved out of Florida.
Maybe if I don't eat for six month we can afford it. :D Poor Mr. E. wanting to retire and now another large bill we are going to have to pay every year. If he was not working we probably could not afford. Taxes went up almost double last year. I feel sorry for those that can't afford all these increases. Getting old and all these increased payments frighten me to death. You work hard only to loose your home when you get old. :(

Do you have a Farm Bureau? They insure my manufactured home, barn etc. About $500 per year

Here is an article that may help explain things - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16720746/site/newsweek/page/0/

Have you tried the state backed insurance Mrs. E? That's what my mom had on her mobil home because she couldn't get any other insurance. Now that she passed away and her home is empty, we can't get any insurance on it at all. Hoping we can sell it before a hurricane blows it away! There's just not an easy solution to this problem.

Who is your curent policy with? My MH is insured with Omega which, I think, is a division of Tower Hill. Tower Hill used to insure it but stopped after the hurridcanes several years ago. Omega picked up their accounts. Farm Bureau also used to insure them but don't know about now. And, yes, MH insurance in Florida is difficult to find. As for the property taxed, all counties have gone up. If you can ag exempt then that is the only way to have reasonable taxed--we have 180 acres and pay about $800 a year in property taxes (sumter County). In Lake county we have 50 acres with MH and barn and pay about $2000 a year. This years proposed taxes would actually be less but won't believe that until I see real bill! PM if you want insurance company contact info.
