He could have been in one of those western shows where they make them have their head low.. I would have NEVER guessed he was a paso.

My gelding rode like that when I got him...came from working in a curb bit with a western saddle (wouldn't gait either...she sold him to me as a "non-gaiting Paso Fino")...I took the bit out of his mouth...put a lightweight saddle on him...and voila...he gaited up a storm. Someone finally told him it was ok to ride with his head in the air! ;-)

That's a really pretty Paso, though. I wonder how much he's going for.... :-? NOT that I'm looking or anything.....

I agree that it's not unusual to see some Paso Finos with low heads like that when they are relaxed, usually at a flat walk. That carriage though normally makes them too heavy on the front and messes up the gait. I've seen many western-trained Pasos, just like Carol described, who don't gait at all, JUST because they were trained to go with their head down. Get their head up and a little collection and they gait fine.
Headsets are whatever is natural for the horse.

Yep, when we first walk out on the trail, both Delgado and Canseco can look like QHs. However, when we ask for a corto, largo, the heads go up and we have our Pasos doing their thing. Gotta say, that on the way back you would never think they were QHs as their heads go up and the fight is on to keep them from cortoing and/or largoing all the way back to the barn. Also, we do let them cantor sometimes, but a quick check and its back to a largo. That is the beauty of Pasos versatility(is that a word?). :D Sharon

Yep! That's the gravitational pull of their shoes.
Away from barn: :horsey:
Towards barn: :runaway:
