I drove 2hrs to a friends place, we trailered out to Wissota state park in WI..

Chico and I pony'd storm for 1hr, no issues....

Then I got on Storm! He stands like a rock while mounting, something I am so thankful I taugh him...

We rode an old Rail road bed which had horse trail on one side, then a paved side for bikers and roller bladers..

10mins into the ride he starts acting VERY strange, side stepping head toss, w/in 10seconds a biker WIZZED buy us, SCARY! But he was good, no bolt, just a major side step issue and nervous tension..

I got him calm and we walked on..

5mins later w/out warning a big guy roller blader wizzed by, this was bad, he spooked to the sky, around and a million side steps and backing.. He became calm w/in about 1min or so. Again no bolt which I was thankful for.

I know these are pretty normal reactions, especially since the one guy came outta no where.

The next 2hrs we were all over the trails. Did some road riding w/cars going by, no problem...

We became very calm and good after awhile, he does still do his head toss every 10mins or so..Cant figure that out, I think it might be nerves or attitude. Not the saddle or tack, I have checked..

ANyway for pics!

All tacked up ready to go!

Congrats on a successful ride. All horses get frightened. It's HOW they deal with fear that is important. Sounds like you've done a great job with him.

Great ride Jen! Sounds like Storm is listening to his training! We may have to change his name to "spring rain" LOL Great Pix!

To upload pictures, you should be able to do it directly from your computer. They will show up as thumbnails, but those can be clicked on and enlarged. It will open a new window and then you can click again for another enlargement in most cases.

Takes a little exploring to figure out all this new stuff, but I really like being able to download from computer!

Test.....I've never done this before either. LOL trying to post a picture from computer

Jen, recognize that Percheron?

When you post your original post, there is a link on the top..right next to the grey smilie face. CLick on that and you can upload from computer. (doens't show up on edit) Other wise, you can use the little yellow square with the mountain and sun inside...that is where you can post URL.

Hope this helps.

Looks like you had a great ride. And those little spooks were pretty good considering he's just learning about things that go whizzing by. One thing I like in our area is that multi-use trails are marked that bikers and hikers have to yield to horses. So they're pretty good about slowing down or stopping. Of course we yell at them if they don't :p

Storm is really growing into an elegant boy. And sounds like he is going to be a dandy trail horse, too! Congrats!

he looks tall????

Marci does a head toss sometimes too, I think it has to do with somthing either making her itch or not fitting quite right- she did it the other night, then turned her head and scratched the side of her head on my boot! Then the tossing stopped......

I am 5ft1in, think storm is 14'3? He is one of the bigger boys, just needs to fill out and get tough!

I am so hoping we continue a good streak of riding. I was considering selling him a month ago...

My mare tosses her head. Well, it is more an up and down movement. I think she is trying to itch and uses the reins to rub on her neck.
