Wow, videos and lots more pictures, please? I used to run drill teams for H/J and dressage students, and utterly loved it. I'd give my right arm (...okay, at least a few fingers) to be in a gaited drill team.
Anyone know of one in western NC, southern VA or eastern TN? Anyone reading out there who'd want to form one with me?
(And I'm going to pm you for a bigger version of that group shot!)

Thanks for the kind words! Sorry it's kind of short, but it was taken by a 13 year old. We will try to get more at the next performance.
Unfortunately , Patrullero will no longer be in the drill. He is going to do the breed demo portion of our drill only. I am going to be riding my Cosmos mare in the drill from now on. Pat was having some problems keeping up with the other horses and it was making him a little upset. He is not happy about the decision, but he'll be happy when he still gets to go with the group on performance days. Right now he's a little jealous! =o) He's such a show off!!

Now don't y'all go worrying about Pitter Pat. I heard through the grapevine that his favorite human....Blackpearl...AKA.....Jessie is always there to give him a big scratch and lots of treats. He loves that girl. Of course who wouldn't love to be scratched on in just the right spot for however long they want and fed all the cookies one can eat. I'd say Pitter Pat will be just fine. He is such a character. HEHEHEHEHE!!!!!
Candice Burger

Trust me, Pat never goes without! He sure can make a person feel guilty though! He just gives that look and it makes me melt! He has everyone wrapped around his little hoof! LOL He will still get to do the breed demos with us though, so he hasn't been completely taken off the team, just given a new job. I just wish he would understand that. He does love his scratches though!!!

Hey Unica77. Pat is a stunning horse and his beauty will be appreciated however the team uses him. I really enjoyed watching your team performance in Middleburg. They are always friendly, willing to share their horses with the public and truly have a cohesive team spirit. They are a great representative of the breed. Keep up the good work! Your team and your horses are absolutley gorgeous! Kudos to all of you!!!!

Hi Miss Candice
Since you and I are the biggest Pat fans ever, I will give him extra scratches, hugs & of course cookies from you as well. I will tell him you send your best his way. He is so fun to play with. He was so mad that Mel rode Salome instead of him that I had to go and scratch his neck and feed him baby carrots just to get him to stop making mean faces and kicking his stall door. He felt loved again when he got all the attention and the carrots. HEHEHEHE! That horse is so funny!

ASAP!!! I want at least a filly or two by Pat. So, lots of work ahead to get all that done! I'm going to try some interesting crosses if I can ever get my mares prepped for breeding again.
Yep, I was the one that bid on Pat at Nationals. To be honest that was a hard choice because there were several I admire and you can't beat the chance to get a good price. True love won out again though.

Candice,
I'm happy that you are going to breed to him! I hope you at least get a filly! A client of ours has a mare in foal to him right now. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is a filly b/c she said she would give it to us if it is. =o)

Hey Mel.....Well I am still working on my mom for a Pat baby. I think I am wearing her down. She has said that next breeding season she will consider breeding him to Princesa. After she saw the filly from Pat out of the other Capucchino mare she gave it some more thought. Of course my pestering her helps too!!! hehehehe. Since I will be officially a teenager tomorrow I will pester her more b/c she will expect it from a teenager. hehehe! We have to plan a date night for Princesa & Pat. Let's be sneaky. hehehe!!!!!

Did you know he is one of only a handful of stallions that has Bochica top and bottom? I have only been able to find 2 others, so far, that offers this type of breeding. As far as I know one of the stallions went to PR so that leaves Pat and another here in the USA.
Although the inbreeding is close I really think folks should look really hard at using Pat for Petrolero mares and Patrimonio horses and Ponderoso Coloso stock. It's no lie about the execution either. I've seen several crops by Pat and they all have caboose.
Of course, take my musings with a grain of salt because love is blind!

Candice,
Great observations. Actually, we were planning to breed him to a Performance mare out of Ponderosa Coloso in the spring and I'm very excited to see what they will give us. Actually, the mare belongs to Jessie (#1 Pat fan), so I know she is excited as well!!

11-05-2007, 01:48 PM
Oh yeah! I am so excited. I figure it this way by the time India has her first Pat baby I will have hopefully convinced my mom th breed him to Princesa(Capucchino) and then later breed him to India again(Ponderosa Coloso) and I will have 2 PAT BABIES!!!!! HEHEHEHEHE! I'm cooking up a plan here. I think those 2 mares with Pat would have awesome foals. HEHEHE!!!!!

Here is one of my favorite pictures of Pat. It is with one of his favorite mares, Princessa. She is the Capuchino mare that Jessie is trying to get her Mom to breed to Pat. Aren't they cute together??
Candice Burger
11-06-2007, 01:56 PM
Yes they are. It is interesting but I do believe horses can fall in love on first sight. My Pat son is allot like Pat about his "girls" and his "territory". Very possessive. Even when he's separated from them, he checks up to see how things are going. At a pasture lease I had several years ago, I had neighbors who didn't have the best fencing and their mares would occasionally get out. I was worried he'd hurt himself trying to get to them. Instead I was astonished that he didn't want those mares any where near his herd! He'd stand guard to make sure those mares wouldn't get near the fence at all!
He was the same with new mares I'd purchase and introduce. Even across the fence, he would be very upset with any new mare I was bringing into his herd. It would take him a few months to accept a new mare in his group.
Then I bought another mare. I usually keep the new ones by themselves for however long it takes them to get oriented then place them with some younger stock ultimately introducing the older mares after a new "herd" had formed made up of fillies and the new mare. I arrived after midnight, unloaded the mare in the dry lot next to my stallion's pasture, not really worrying that he'd try to get to her since he was so territorial. Well, lo' and behold they were in love before I could say "boo". By week's end they were all lovey dovey.
I had intended to breed the mare to a different stallion and kept her seperated for over a year. They'd call to each other all the time. Finally I caved in and during a spring month while she was in heat, put them together. I normally put him in with her to protect her, but my strategy had to change because I was limited with pasture. So, I dumped her in with him hoping he wouldn't harm her. Sheesh! It was like they'd known each other all their lives.
There is some folk lore attached to the idea about the quality of offspring depending on if the mare is truly accepting a stallion or forced to conceive due to man's schemes. I dunno how much truth there is to that, but the filly I got from this love match is turning out to be one of my best.
Oh, and she is an Anfitrion granddaughter too! ;)

Candice,
Interesting story....It will be interesting to see what Pat produces with Princessa and India b/c he just loves both mares to death. We had bred him to India, the Coloso mare, in the spring, but she didn't take so we are waiting till spring to try again. Hopefully Jessie will have some luck talking her Mom into letting her breed Princessa to Pat. Jessie just loves Pat and I would love to see her get a baby out of him. He isn't getting any younger (although he doesn't know that)......He just got his spot back on the drill team and he was SOOO happy about it last night during practice. He was full of it! LOL He has so much personality!!!
Candice Burger
11-06-2007, 06:30 PM
Well all I really know is I adore Pat's personality. I'm glad my stallion has it and very, very glad to see many of his fillies with the same sparkle. It's a privilege to be around them.

Hey Candice......After my daughter reading all your praises of Pat's offspring she is more determined than ever to get a Pat baby with one or both of our mares. Miss Candice.....I almost got me a Pat baby last night at practice. My mom thought she had tied our capucchino mare to the post but she didn't and the mare just kind of stood there looking at the other horses.....Pat was tied to another tie and he was really wanting her to come visit.....Too bad it wasn't Pat that was loose and the mare tied to the post.....hehehehehe.

I just wanted to add that not only are we going to perform our drill, but we are also going to do a wonderful breed demo before the drill to help educate the crowd on the different styles of the Paso Finos! We will be demonstrating Fino (With our champion fino mare, Fantacia del Dorado), Performance (with champion performance mare, India de Calidad), Pleasure, recreational pleasure, and we have a new member who is going to do a long line demonstration to music!! Everyone should come out to cheer us on! We are set to perform on Saturday in the Grand Prix arena at 2pm and then on Sunday in the Winners Circle at 2pm. The event will take place at Post time Farm, which is also where HITS take place.

I hope you guys are going to make video of your performance! Pat sounds like a real character!!
Our guys definitely have mare preferences. All the boys LOVE Brandy and she loves the boys. Brilliant is in love with his half sister. He used to go nuts when she got out of sight.
Our guys and girls took the fences down last week and our horse sitter found them all happily munching on the boy's round bale and not even any squabbling among the boys (three stallions and a very studdy, can breed, gelding). Two of the girls are Sultan's wives and Brilliant's mom and and foster mom after his mom was injured in an ice storm and the third is great grandmother and grandmother. Somehow they all seem to know they're family. I LOVE boys who have been taught respect from the time they were born and who have been in a mixed herd enough to know how to behave.

Hey there Valentina! I dont know why you are expressing yourself in that matter!. I dont know why you must balme Melissa for not having a horses ready for you. I also think that I personally extended a Welcome to our farm in wich I was very pleased with the work that you did for us.
Meissas farm is right across for Hacienda Santa Madre! I am sure you know them!, but is not her fault that at this time they do not have an extra READY HORSE for you.
You know well how many horses we have at our farm, and also you know that they are in process! not ready to work on a drill team yet!.....
So! sorry! I dont see the reasoning for your attitude!

11-19-2007, 12:15 AM
Vescobar.....I agree with Felix. Your attitude is way out of line. It is your own responsibility to supply your own horse, and cover your own expenses such as costume and tack for your horse. Everyone knows this going into the drill team. We also pay for coaching lessons as well or did you expect us to pay for that for you too? That is on any team and not just the Paso Finos. Do not make a remark about our Paso Fino breed because you have that attitude. We always welcome new members to the team but they must have a team spirit and cohesive attitude which you clearly do not have. Maybe it's not the Paso Fino people who have a problem, maybe it's the people in your "class" that have a problem.

Yes we can. We had to wait 50 years to get our first paso finos. Before that we borrowed, rented, did whatever we could to satisfy our "horse habit". We also know how it feel to have someone accuse us of something we're not guilty of. You show maturity in publicly apologizing. The next step is to make sure you NEVER assume malice. It's far better to assume good intent and be wrong than to assume bad intent and be wrong. And sometimes by assume good intent, the bad intent just fades away and causes you no further problems.
This book should be required reading for everyone by the ninth grade. The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. It made a huge change in my attitude and my outlook on life. Try it - it's really funny and entertaining and not religious nor preachy. Just really good sense information on how to achieve goals.

Our next performance is at Grand Cypress Equestrian Center in Orlando. We are going to be performing for their pony club, "Pony Tails". I think the kids will really enjoy it.

Thanks Felix, for everything!!! I wish I could have included the breed demo, but it was too long.....Maybe I will put some clips together when I can figure out how to do that. Hehehe!

Hey Mel......Can you just do another post and only put the breed demo on there?
A huge THANK YOU to our Sponsor Mr. Felix and Platinum Horse Productions. We had a great time and we really did a good job representing the breed. There were people coming up to our horses and asking about their history and their breeding. We let them pet them and we spoke to anyone who wanted to know about our Pasos. We handed out brochures to the crowd and they really loved that b/c it explained the Paso Fino breed to them and also gave information about the team and our sponsors. We have been invited to return next year. YEAH!!!!!!!

Nioka- I would love to post the breed demo, but we really did not get enough of it and what we did get did not turn out well. Maybe we can ask someone tape it at our next performance and post it then.

Great team – thanks a million for the video! The wheels were snappy, the serpentine at the end was just to die for, and I loved the way you waved and smiled and stroked your horses at the end: obviously busting out with pride and satisfaction. Way to promote the breed – you’re a super fine drill team in appearance and performance.
In fact, the speed of the routine was amazing. I almost wanted you to walk one maneuver just to show the audience how fast you were really going!

Thanks Soltera and Carol! We really did enjoy ourselves and it was great PR for the breed as you said!! We are working hard to make it even better for the next time! I am going to try to get some pictures of the team at the Christmas parade. They should be pretty entertaining!

I personally think the elf on the chestnut horse was really an angel in disguise!!!!! hehehehe!!!!!! Either way those Pasos are beautiful and you have to give the riders Kudos for going out in those costumes!!!!!!!! Yeah Pasos del Dorado!!!!!!!!

Hey all you guys. Man that parade was tough. I am soooo glad I brought the horse I did. My mare would have left me in that parade. Of couse she is spooky anyway. The gelding I brought belongs to Lynn & Debbie Kephart. His name Vengador De La Libertad but we call him Ben for short. I hope he stays there at Mel's for awhile incase I need a Parade horse (HEHEHE) . He is sooo sweet and loveable. I liked the elves alot & of course the mini w/the cart. Can't wait to do it again. ( Only if my buddies come of course. HEHEHEHE)
