The Last Horse
the old folks are gone, but the house still stands
the fences are down, but their post still dot the land
crops long gone, if you look real close the land still shows
sign of ancient field corn rows
why! at one time ya could stand on the front porch and see clean
to the mail box, now it’s all grown over with cedar and sumac
kids grew up and moved away and had kids and they moved even farther away!
Some still come back maybe once a year, sometime I think just to see what’s still
standin here
boy howdy ! At one time they was pigs, chickens, cows and horses
all over this farm, need full things, useful things....
But as things aged and time moved on they were all moved on too
it’s all quiet now, not a neigh or grunt nor cluck nor a moo.
It was me and old MO just hangin on here
till the drought came and hay got dear
now it’s jest me and I still think I hear
down in the corral a sound so clear
old Mo, just nickered loud and long
no it’s not him ol Mo is gone
dang old age , time and weather !!
