Okay, this is going to sound really weird, but today I noticed Katie has a black beauty mark on the left side of her muzzle that feels like a small bump. I swear I've never seen it before today. She kind of looks like Cindy Crawford now.

I'm afraid it might be melanoma, but it is nothing like the skin tumors discussed in this article:

Katie is only 2-1/2 y.o. I'll try to post a pic soon.

She's a dark brown pinto. I can see a small bump in this pic, but I resized it to attach to this post, so it's hard to see.

If it is on the white, you may want to have the vet take a look at it. My perlino mare had something like that behind her eye on her face. It was ok for a while, and suddenly got much larger. It turned out to be an encapsulated melanoma. He removed it and it never came back. Horse melanoma is different than people's, thank goodness.

It's not on the white, it's on the dark brown part. I'm probably fretting for nothing, but I'm going to keep an eye on it. I'll have the vet chet it out next month.

its could just be a growth/cyst caused by either a reaction to an insect bite or even an ingrown muzzle hair or comparable to a skin tag like humans get..One mare here had a few of the insect bite growths..they do NOT look like a bite but we did have the vet check it out and she biopsed them and the results came back with some big word I dont remember that she explained was some type of reaction to old insect bites..I have a few horses here with odd little bumps like you describe..just keep an eye on it to monitor growth/changes and like you said , next time vet is there have them check it out ..
