People on this side of the pond are not pleased, petrol (Gasoline) just hit a record high today over £1 a litre which translates into $9.20 per gallon !!!!! Even I am now having to watch how far I go in the car and is it necessary - not good !!!!.....if this carries on there will be uproar followed by strikes and pickets.:(

I'm sorry, strikes and pickets to whom? To the ones who sell the oil at whatever price the fair market demands? Or to those in the market who bid the price to what it is? The last time I checked England was a free market economy based on capitalism just like we are. Was I wrong or has something changed? Perhaps if enough people get upset over paying too much for the oil that currently runs our lives, someone will find a way to make a bundle by powering our excessive lifestyles by some other fuel. But rest assured that the free market will take care of the issue in the end. Those who wish to be freed from the oppression of the oil industry should be rejoicing as we speak. The only way to overcome the industry is for the industry to price itself out of the market.

Wow, and I thought $3.09 was high! I live in the country so have to travel about 20 miles to any big town. Thank goodness I only work 1 1/2 miles away from my house! I hope the gas prices come back down soon.

I don't understand why it costs so much more over there, compared to here, with a gallon going for between $3-$4....

Heidi the problem we get is the amount of tax we have to pay on fuel it's way more than the rest of Europe.

No Cindy, people are cross because of the amount of tax we have to apy on fuel it is way more than the rest of Europe and it's why ours in so expensive. Currently there are reason's for fuel to be expensive, we know that the market dictates this but I suppose the only good thing is that if people stop using their cars there is less pollution so I expect that some people will be grateful in the end.

But, Finogirl, the taxes have not gone up, the price of fuel has gone up. If ya'll had a problem with the fuel taxes, you should have addressed that long ago. The present problem has nothing to do with the amount of taxes you pay. It is the price of fuel that has gone up. Two totally seperate issues.

oooooooo, I am definitely adding to my vocabulary. First it was Pressies (NOT underwear), then Guy Flawkes (he likes blowing up stuff) and now Flipping Nora. Wicked Cool.

Oh and you are on your own with the double post - haven't a clue there.

Sorry Cindy am tired and am going to bed now. We all know how much the price of Gas has gone up, I am not arguing that at all, but our government (which incidently I didn't vote for BTW) has also recently put the tax on fuel up again making the matter worse. I don't like or support our government over here but unfortunately as you all know if you live in a country you also live by the rules and it's awful taxes.

Edited to add Terri I will try and find some more words for you if you like.;)

Night !!

Hey! I have an idea.

Can we set up the sensor to substitute bad words for interesting British slang terms?

I am loving the new vocabulary that I am developing now that finogirl is here. I am trying out my new words at work and they are going over well. Others have started using them!!!

Cindy, a Kune Kune pig is a British slang term for admins who delete the whole threads by mistake. They have to use the rather exotic "flipping of the Nora" technique to restore all the posts. Unfortunately, North American overuse of this technique causes British fuel taxes to rise, which really annoys their pesky, litigious neighbors. For more info on the pig, grab your “P” device and cliplight cap and hit the trail. But DO watch out for falling cows!

you guys really make me laugh :v: now Im trying to think of some british slang words for you, coming from london I should know more then I do.
One thing that confused People when I was over there was I kept saying -
'it aint proper' - meaning it isnt how it should be.
I imagine you all know -
trouble and strive - means wife
dog and bone - means phone. mmmm let me think... ok yes if I dont want to be on my own I might say 'dont wanna be on me jack' - of course remembering to drop the T's and H's in everything.
this could be fun will try and think of some more....
Police are known as pigs in some places.

Well butter my bottom and call me a biscuit
