I asked once before - now is the time for people to speak up amd let the "powers that be " know what we would like happen !
On the older other chat ;) - it could go at times 24 hrs ,it all depended on where everyone was across the globe, and if they wanted or needed to talk to someone !
People were on foal watch or watching a colicing horse and - some of us that could stay up and keep them company did .
I had nunerous questions answered, and good conversations before, on chat - and it was more one on one than just a post - sure would like to see that happen again :v:
Do you agree ?

We do need a chat room I didn't use the old one much but it was helpful many times.

So if you can fix one up Lori go for it.

And Thanks

What I used to like was that you could go on and see if there was something going on that you would like to talk about. you could even LURK!!! And then you usually wanted to get involved..

I vote for "lurking" capability and the list of names of who's in chat on the forum screen. Sometimes I don't feel like talking but just want some company from live people. Lurking can be very soothing.

As much as I enjoyed the old chat room, I don't think I'd like one on this forum. JMHO, but there are too many rules here for spontaneity. I always worry about what I say, so I send most stuff by e-mail or on other forums now.

Chat rooms can be fun! I don't have the time to sit in very often, but I know some of you really enjoy them and it's a lot faster than waiting for private messages to go. I'd opt for having one!

Still would like chat with names at the top in all sections of the forum and lurking capability. And during any emergency like storms or hurricanes, having chat capability could be a life saver.

As far as restrictions - the rules are simple enough to follow - no profanity/vulgarity/graphically sexual content and no libelous or really nasty comments. Even with no restrictions at all on chat you know someone can copy and post anything you say - so like email - you just have to be careful not to post anything you wouldn't want to end up on the main forum or in court.

And with lurking capability added this feature alone would act as a moderator for those in chat.

I don't like the idea of lurkers to a "conversation".

I don't like the idea of lurkers to a "conversation".

Yeah...on the old OLD board, lurkers frequently copied, saved, and sent by e-mail, conversations that were in the chat room. People also signed in as other people and had 'play' conversations that got others in trouble. It worked where if you signed in earlier as someone else, and then 'went dormant' when that person signed in, you could read the PMs too. Lot's of problems when lurkers have access.

Here, I wouldn't want to get banned from the BB because of adult humor in the chat room. Couldn't resist joking around. So...better not to be tempted and let my guard down.

A chat room without lurkers or monitors would be fine. People could 'clean it up' when kids or adults who upset easily come in IF you know they are there. Also, safeguards that restrict access to signed-in BB members.

Folks, chat is only what you make of it. As for me parnoia is not going to be a part of it. It can be fun you know!!

We will never know unless we try. As many of you have told me, don't give up, just move forward.

Since this site is family orientated - I have NO problem with having chat and watching what I say - as far as "lurking" - I have no need to do that - if you want to multi-task and watch what is going on in chat - simply say you are "on the side" - or busy .
If you want to tell someone an off colored joke or comment - just go to PM - OR it can be set up to go one on one with anyone that is in chat -
If you remember the OLD OLD - pre APF chats - that software was archaic and could be hacked easy - OR so I was told - LOL - Don't ask me ,I still can't get some stuff to work right on XP ! :(
Chat did a world of good for a lot of people in many ways - So I say give it a try ~

I like lurking capability for two reasons. It provides an automatic monitor for full chat just because it's possible. And personally there are some times I just am not in the mood to say anything but perhaps need a diversion - if I have migraine for example. And if it becomes popular it's a safety measure if someone is in trouble and needs help and their cell phone or phone isn't working.

If you'll remember in the old chat you were able to send a chat message to a person directly without it being read by the full chat audience. This would enable anyone who wants to share a "blue" joke, link etc. to do so without being monitored. You could even send it to three or four people. So there would really be no restriction other than remembering to send the item only to those you want to read it. This makes sense anyway.

We are working with Vijay to get a good/stable chat solution. It'll be enabled pretty soon.
