This past w/e Pocita and I headed 5 hours south to Lake Okeechobee to attend a two day ride at the Dupuis Water Management Area. Megan Davis was the ride manager and really did a nice job. The trails were great: mostly soft turf with very little sand or muck and virtually no road riding. It was dryer than I've ever seen it in that area. The weather cooperated by being in the 50s in early AMs and then warming only into the 70s with a good stiff breeze both days. And Sunday there was the added benefit of good cloud cover. Even my wooly mare stayed cool most of the time! We rode 25 miles both Saturday and Sunday and partnered both days with Allison Torrington on Paso mare, May Day. Saturday we tied with Allison for 10th place and on Sunday May Day pulsed down about 30 seconds before Pocita to take 3rd to Pocita's 4th place. Then we all stood for best conditon and tied for 3rd place. There were no other Pasos on this ride. All in all a very rewarding w/e in spite of the long drive to get there and back. Ed stayed home to take care of the otehr horses since we have agreed that for now Jedi will do best going to only one ride a month until he becomes better conditioned and used to the routine.
