Anyone have a sloution to the "slick tool" problem posed by applying Cowboy Magic (or Showsheen, or other conditioners)? You've brushed the mane/tail/body and applied the goop, but then can't hold onto the tool to brush it in! I've tried swapping gloves, but the stuff just gets on the other glove. There's no place to wash hands, and I've tried the antibacterial hand gel, but it doesn't do the trick.

Keep an old terry cloth towel to wipe your hands on. It will take all the "goo" right off. Or just run your fingers through your own hair LOL :p

Whoa, now! Duct tape what? The horse or my hands? Hands to the horse?
Tried my hair - no good, too short and WAY too absorbent. But terry cloth? Really?? I'll try it! :D
Nevado really just doesn't get my slinging brushes hither and yon, though Amigo doesn't mind....

what i do and it help out is i put the stuff on the hair brush just a very small amount. Then brush the mane and tail. It works and i dont have to touch the stuff.

Well, the terry cloth didn't work too well. Maybe I need "old" terry cloth, which is softer. I actually put Cowboy Magic all over his body if I won't be riding for a while, in the winter, so he grooms out white every day. Well, mostly.
This morning I tried some sanitary hand gel, and that worked pretty well. I've also put vetwrap on the brush handle. Progress!

Give Pink a try. It's a lot cheaper, works just as well, and doesn't leave your hands slippery. The only thing I don't like is the smell. Sure wish they had and unscented variety.

I use the hair lotion. They also make some clear stuff in a non aerosol bottle that I use too.

Thanks for your ideas - I'll see if I can find some of those products to order off the web. Unless Walmart carries them? And I'm assuming they don't dye the hair pink, of course!
But Mel, is sushi really worth the risk?

Walmart sells pink as do most drug stores. Look in the African American hair section.
Sushi is TOTALLY worth the risk. I have not gone mad from the mercury yet...:p

A trip to Wally World it is!! Thanks again - Cowboy Magic is sooooo $$$$, but does smell good. I'll save it for the housepets. :v:
Well, I thought you could get worms from sushi. If not, perhaps I should try it again next time I get to a populated area. I'm a pretty adventureous eater. Don't want worms. Walmart does not have sushi.

The Pink in the spray can. Works great! It does smell reaaaaalllly girly, but that fades pretty quick.
I haven't tried any of the lotions.

Steer clear of Amberjack and you shouldn't have a problem with worms. Salmon and Tuna are usually good choices. And, of course, my favorite...eel. With the sauce. Walmart down here does have Sushi. And Pink. Which both work exceptionally well, depending on your needs at the moment. Good luck!

After I took parasitology in college, I don't eat Sushi. You probably should see liver flukes through a microscope before you eat sushi. Had friends that had worms come alive and crawl out of their frozen halibut steaks when they cooked them. GROSS.
The Pink that works as a detangler is the clear glosser in an aerosol pump.

Yes, they carry it in the black hair care section at Walmart and other stores. It does depend on your location though. I had to buy it while at Nationals in Georgia. Our black haircare section is very small here.

Everyone I know that goes to the nationals and other shows uses BABY OIL & WATER mixed in a spray bottle. I know even Robin uses it and the horses look great. You just wipe them down with a clean towel after spraying and they look great. This is all we use on our horses and saves a lot of money on that expensive stuff in the long run.
Hope this helps

Try using Vetrolin Detangler. It is way better than Cowboy Magic. It actually absorbs into the hair shaft instead of lying on the surface, and it doesn't get your hands "goopy". It doesn't attrach dust and adhere dirt like Cowboy Magic either. You can turn your horse out with in in their hair (after it's dried of course) and the next day the don't look dindgy. My friend who shows Arabians and I have tried just about everything. Our horses consistantly place high in the Grooming and Conditioning classes at the Open shows we go to. Classes can have upwards of 14 or more horses, and we usually place in the top three. Over the years we've tested lots of products. Vetrolin makes some of the best grooming products we've found.

I like vetrolin shine and mane and tail because it has sun screen in it also. It works very well for tangled manes and tails as well as the body but avoid the saddle area of course. I just spray well, let it dry, then start combing with one of those brushes that has the plastic prongs with the little knobs on the ends. I also use a wide spaced stainless steel comb I used to use on mhy persian cats. I tried the pink but didn't like it too well. Maybe I got the wrong one??
