After going to Dinsey and coming back to rain, ice and snow we are seriously thinking about moving.
We have 5 years before my husband can retire with full benefits. But it will take us that long to find land, build a house and barn. My mother-in law lives in Brooksville and offered us 5 acres of her land but Right ow we have 12 horses. I dont believe 5 acres would be enough. I could get down to maybe 10 horses. LOL Anyway, i need opinions on a good place to move to. We are looking at Georiga or Florida. Would like in a horse area. Parks to ride in. Quiet back roads to drive the belguims on. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Andrea

Just buy my place: http://www.pensacolamls.com/(azrcdx55mg0fvceurifg5keg)/propertyDetails.aspx?mls=341785...It's perfect for you!!

Actually, Northwest Florida is nice. It's convenient to everything and is a little less congested. Lots of nice riding around here. Prices are a little less than in the peninsula. You can look at the link above and get an idea of property types and prices.

Bob's newspaper Vilcon usually has lots of real estate ads in it. We would marvel at the outstanding buys in that area. In our part of the country land is VERY expensive. An unimproved 5-acre lot in my 'town' costs $375,000 now. Blows me away. It will be nice when we sell and move...but our quandary is where to? We have to stay in the west with Federal land to ride on and not too far from a major airport for hubby's Caribbean habit.

Andrea,
I live in Central Georgia and I like my area very much. You may want to look in the Dublin, Montazuma area. Many of the roads are sandy, no gravel at all and the horses will not need shoes. There would be enough weather change to have a change in seasons, but very little snow or real cold

Pnally, I think that Georgia is my pick also. I think it will get to hot in Florida for me. Ido like the change of seasons but do not like the winter storms. Then the mud. It seems like 6 months out of the year it is hard to ride up here. But I am a fair weather rider in my older years. Do you have any idea what land is going for? Or maybe small farms? 20 acres or so? I will look up those cities you posted. And we are planning on taking a few fast vacations to check out different places at different times. We bought 70 acres in MIchigan. Thought it was beautiful. And it was. But during the summer months we got horse flies so bad the horses could not go out of there stalls. THose flies are vicious. I was sad but in a way glad when we sold it. I do not miss the ticks and horse flies. What are the insects like there? If you have time will you e-mail me and tell me about the things you do and do not like about Georgia? My e-mail is andreaprewitt@yahoo.com. Thank you everyone and Merry Christmas.

Sorry Andrea...I'm not good with links! Go to www.pensacolamls.com and look in the Milton/East Milton area. I'm listing #341785. I want to sell way before you're looking to move but the site will give you a good idea of prices in this area. We're pretty central - 6 hours from Atlanta and Orlando, 3 hours from New Orleans and 15 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico! Good luck with your search!!

Andrea here is a link for our place which is for sale in North Florida 21 miles from the Georgia State Line.

http://www.timpeary.com/homes/EvansRanch/Evansft.htm

Plenty of privacy and several roads with little traffic to ride on. Also plenty of trails to ride on also.I made the trails wide enough to drive a wagon or cart on also.

Very nice place Bob. I am wondering why you people are selling these nice places. Trails already made. That takes alot of work and time. If Dan could retire sooner I would be down looking at this place. I wanted along the Georgia line. One thing I do have to have is a good size town near by. Son that is a diabetic will be moving with us. In fact the whole family is wanting to move. I can't beat that. But I need a good hospital near by. At least within 20 minutes. I would like to find a place with two homes on it. Or land where i can split it and build two homes. We sold our farm and have 4 places to sell up here. The house has to be good size for my daughter and her two children will be with us. One will be in college. thanks for the posts.

You'll find lots of bugs in the south! And pretty much all year round the further south you go. Definitely go in the summer time before you buy, the humidity is a lot higher than in the North, winters are good but summers can be brutal! Of course this is from a Midwester that hated it in Florida:v:

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm selling because I've outgrown my place. My plan is to move 3 blocks away! My place can comfortably accommodate 12 horses but I've got 14 here now. I'd have to make major changes to make the set up we want so we're starting from scratch.

Andrea,

We have a hidden Agenda. All our kids are grown and have their own businesses. I have retired 3 times and Grace 1 time. So we are going to purchase a new Dodge Dually with a 48 foot 2 horse trailer with self contained LQ and just spend our last days traveling around the USA visiting our other Paso Fino friends and relatives.
Plus it will give us a chance to see our kids more since they are scattered from North to South.

This time we retire it will be for good. Grace and I have owned our own tractors and trailers and used to run 7000 miles a week across the USA and Canada so she certainly can pull a 48 foot horsetrailer, we used to pull 53 foot refrigerated trailers. It is our final chance to see all our friends and relatives.

We intend to purchase a small travel trailer and about 5 acres of ground around Greenville so we do not have to change our address or other business and bank accounts. It will also provide a home base.

Our Newspaper, Vilcom International Outdoor News and Horse Report will continue, We will just be reporting from the actual locations instead of depending on press releases and the internet for its success. We are going into our 13th year of printing the paper. We will have it printed from wherever we are at the time to print. God has been good to us even with my disability and Grace getting breast cancer. Now we are both in good health and are going to take advantage of it while we can.

Hope this answers your questions why we are selling our place. Also we may negotiate the price. You could put at least 20 double wide trailers on this property and still have trails to ride. Also you have many major hospitals within driving distance. Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Gainesville (horse and human) Ocala, Pensacola, Orlando and many more including medical centers close by in Georgia. BIG PLUS ++++ Plenty of horse shows to go to and dozens of local horse clubs or associations you might like. Plus 2 Disneyland within driving distance.

Happy Holidays

Bob & Grace:v::v:

I have never been to Florida in the summer. Visited it 4 times in Feb. Once in Dec. Quess maybe I was going down at a good time. I have been checking out the weather in Georgia around Dublin. Looks like it gets cold enough to get rid of the bugs but yet warms up during the day. Maybe the thing to do would be to get a small place down there for the winter. But it would be a pain hauling 13 horses and 7 dogs. I had better do alot of visiting some of these places in the summer before i make the big move. I do not like bugs or Gators. Thank you everyone for your imput. And Bob it sounds like you have great plans. Hope it all works out for you.

I was born and raised in Mo. and now live in La. and wouldn't consider moving back to Mo. We were there for 3 weeks this summer and I don't think I have ever been so hot. Louisiana was a good 10 degrees cooler!! When I go back in the summer, the bugs are awful. The horsefly's could just about pack off my Paso's, they were so big and so many. No, give me La. anytime of the year!!

Dublin has nice sandy roads. There is also a horse club there called silver spurs. They have about 30 acres set up with camps sites (water & Elec) they have bath houses and I think about 20 miles of trails to ride.

Georgia is hot in the summer, but our spring & fall make up for it. I keep free range chickens and have very few bugs.

I live in Albany Ga. about an hour and a half from Florida . I think the worst bugs here would be the nats.
My sisters live in Florida and the biting flies are terrible . My horses did not like them at all .
