I had a Great Dane that had 21 puppies her first litter.....to say the whole ordeal was a nightmare is an understatement.....here's hoping you have just the right number of puppies that your girl can take care of on her own.

Can we "breathe" for her like they teach at Lamaze classes, or is that just a Hollywood myth?
Push, Missy, PUSH!!

Only 11 survived....all of them had to be bottle fed as their mom developed mastitis and also she had to have her spleen removed (it had flipped over...I think the vet called it torsion of the spleen or something like that....) She was having puppies for 2 1/2 days....no lie

At what point do you take a laboring dog to the vet? It sounds like it is normal for 'danes to labor for long periods of time? I just can't imagine 2.5 days...

I had a german shepard that had 13 puppies. All lived and there was no problems.
This dog was found at the vets office tied up to his door in the morning. Of course he calls me to see if I would take her. I did. And she gave us some beautiful puppies.

My friends Newf had to have a C-section yesterday after being in labor for 8 hrs. 13 puppies. 2 died.
I'd take her into the vet as well.

Keep in mind that the 2.5 day labor was an experience someone else posted about. Moniece hasn't even been online for a day and a half, so we don't know what's happening with her dog. She's probably either busy with the puppies or busy with a puppy emergency -- we don't know which. I hope it's the former.

True, we haven't heard from Mo, and that in itself is unual.
12/26, 4:15pm, stated dog had been in labor since the AM.
12/27, 2:13am, stated dog was still in labor and no mention of pups.
12/28, no word.
Mo is not the type of person to keep us hanging with no info/pictures. I am afraid something has gone wrong. I sincerely hope I am wrong. Sending good thoughts their way...

I totally agree! If anyone has another email for her, could you check?

The lack of information does make it seem that something is wrong -- but she could be having electrical or computer problems rather than puppy problems. Her part of the country was having fairly bad storms earlier in the week. Keep hoping for the best!!

Just spoke to Moniece, they are so tied up watching Missy. She lost her plug two days ago. She is at 61 says today. Moniece says she has been laying out flat the last several hours and at regular intervals the last 3-4 hours has been calm then a sudden tensness and arching so they think the babues will be born tonight. Apparently doctor says dogs can have the braxton hicks contract6ions too. But tonight seems to be very real and they have not left her side literally.
