Ok - I am offering up my own horse for people to look at and discuss gait and correctness (or lack of)......please be sincere, tactful etc etc......toward the middle is some clearer video of her gaiting along the wall.......

Background on the horse and her experience/training.....
It is my mare Marci - she had been pulled off pasture to go to this demo, so no formal training, and she had been ridden very lightly - she was 5 years old in this clip......yes, she is supposed to be in Corto, not largo - but I thought this was a good place to start.
She is primarily shown in the Specialty classes - also sometimes in Pleasure and Country Pleasure and has placed at our Regional shows. Mostly I trail ride and do demos with her.
If anyone is able to grab the video and do a frame-by-frame that is ok with me.......

She looks like a sweet pleasure mare. I'm sure a trainer/judge would like to see her more collected for the show ring.
You can't grab videos off of OneTrueMedia, that's why they make you BUY them for $29 each! LOL I did stop it several times along the wall and didn't notice any non-3/2 support if that is what you were wondering.

Thanks Carol! :v: I think she's pretty sweet too...... and yes, when I do show her, I collect her more. Maybe this year I can get some video of me showing her....IF I can afford to get to any shows!
So, would it be 'safe' to call this 'true gait' - one that does not have to be conditioned into the horse.....or one that shows without the horse being in training and having to be properly conditioned to gait........
I can take it - give me the TRUTH!
I'm hoping Marci has passed this along to BB - so far he is really sweet and easy to work around....will be interesting when spring comes and the girls start coming into season!

Did not see any thing but 3/2 nice easy gait---you ming be better to go Country Pleasure which to me as a rule is the better family horse.

She looks very nice and very confidant - she knows she is good. Now you know of course that this is a big stepping corto. Might even be considered a largo in one of the fino bred horses being shown in pleasure and performance. This is not a criticism. Just an observation. Long stride doesn't necessarily mean not collected. Some horses just have a naturally long stride but are perfectly collected the way they should be. Over collected is just as bad as strung out by the way.
If you don't go to shows you have no idea just how fast and short stepped most of today's show paso finos are. This doesn't mean that the larger stepping paso finos can't win in pleasure or country pleasure or western pleasure and so on. Just that there has been so much breeding to Maraquita, Capuchino and other fino horses that there are very large numbers of them in the paso fino population now and a lot of them are being shown. I remarked last year at nationals about how worried I was that our show horses were becoming clones of each other. I don't know how the judges distinguish between them they are so identical. One hop might distinguish between a 1st and a 5 th place. It's quite amazing. BUT again good large striding horses can and do still win. They are just in the minority.
I mentioned Tejano de Painted Star as an example of a large, large striding paso fino. He won extensively in pleasure and bella forma. It can happen but they have to really stand out as he did.

Ok = to me, it is funny that Marci is called 'long striding'.....what she was doing there was a nice, easy CORTO - when I get her into Largo she will move out - BUT, it took her until she was 4-5 to really find her stride and move out......
Yes, she is VERY easy gaited - NO problem riding her bareback - in fact I may do that for the next Breed Demo I go to - the last Equine Affaire I rode/jumped with no bit - flat out gallop to flat walk/dropped reins.....now I think it is time to show TRULY how naturally gaited these gems are!
Bareback, no bit.....walk, corto, largo, canter.....JUMPING!
Back to the gait/showing - I HAVE shown her Country Pleasure - as a 3 or 4 year old - and she did take an HM (I think Cindy may have judged? Don't remember - it was in Topsfield, MA a few years ago).....had a couple of other horses place below her.....this was with no training or a lot of riding for over a month before the show......she TRULY is a go-anywhere, do anything type of horse!
I WISH I had the $$$ to send her for more training, maybe when BB sells I can get her out for a couple of months to get her Western Pleasure gaits polished - then give Nola and Calif a run for their money! :v::v::v:

Actually, one of the things I am marketing BB with, and Marci (listed her for belly lease yesterday!) - is that there is NO Resorte blood in her.......Not even sure if there is 1 common ancester up to 5 generations back!
This is also why I chose Sandy's Emi to breed to - going back to Coral bloodlines - so BB has him top and bottom.....Marci herself has the following 'greats' in her....up to 4 generations back.....
Poco Pataan (grand-pa)-2nd generation
Coral La CE (Through dam - G-grand) - 3rd generation
Ejelmpo que tal (sorry if misspelled!) - Hilaches - 3rd generation
Tar Baby (Top 10 mare) (through dam)- 3rd generation
Bolero LaCE - 3rd generation
Mar de Plata LaCE - 4th generation
And BB adds Coral as his grand-pa through Emi.......not bloodlines you find every day!
