I get a lot of information for my paper from several state game commissions across the country. Here is one I got from Georgia DNR/WRD this morning

Hart County, Georgia
RFC Josh Chambers and Sgt. Stan Elrod worked a complaint on the Hart County Wildlife Management Area in reference to horseback riding. RFC Chambers had received four complaints in the past two weeks from hunters about horses riding in food plots causing damage and disturbing their small game hunting. This WMA has specified areas for dog training and the horses were interfering. RFC Chambers issued one citation for illegal horseback riding on a WMA. RFC Chambers warned this same subject two weeks ago for illegal horseback riding on the WMA.

It's funny if you go the the WMA website it states you can ride horses there anytime providing you stay on the paths. But when you call to find out if they will actually open the gates for parking they will NOT let you ride. The only time we got to ride on one was when we took an extra horse for the warden.

My tax dollars pay for it every bit as much as hunters. That man exibited poor manners by riding of trail and that will just be another nail in the public lands for riding coffin

I will be going to a meeting Friday night about the DEC closing the riding trails around me - apparently it has to do with lack of funds to maintain them....as if horseback trails need a lot of maintaining! (State forest, no vehicles except 4 wheelers which do most of the damage!)......

Supposedly if a local riding club is formed with the intent to help keep up the trails, they will keep them open. I'll find out more Friday!
