I was thinking about what sort of vehicle I would be getting in the future and my brother told me about the F-150 diesel that will be coming out in a year. It sounds perfect for me, 4.4 liter 6 cylinder, 25-30 mpg.:anpony:
The engine is one that Range Rover has developed and has been using with success in Europe.
My two horse trailer fully loaded with 2 horses and all of my crap would put it at around 60% of its towing capacity so it would be all that I would need. If I needed to pull anything heavier, I could borrow Kev's truck.
I can't wait!:jump:

Sounds interesting. I understand that it costs about $5000 to convert to biodiesel. A friend of our son converted his truck and has gone around to a bunch of mom and pop restaurants and offered to dispose of their old fry oil. He has a large tank that he collects the oil in, a filter system and a duel tank setup so he can switch back to regular diesel if he runs out of biodiesel He pretty much runs on free fuel.

You don't have to do anything conversions to run biodiesel in a diesel engine from what I have read. You will have to change your filter frequently at first since the biodiesel tends to get the gunk of of the engine from the old diesel.
Kevin and I are looking into setting up our own little biodiesel works to make enough to run the trucks and equipment.

I wonder what this guy did to his truck that cost the 5K?? Maybe it's his filtration system, tanks and so on? I'll check on it.

Varying reports but it looks like it might be a V8:

It will be interesting to see how this develops. 500 lb-ft is a bunch, combine that with 25-30 mpg and !
But there may be a few barriers in the way, see "Navistar" story:

Let us know what you find out. I'm just wondering how much trouble it is to have two fuel tanks for trip s beyond the range of a single tank of biodiesel...

Sandy this is what the guy who is currently making his own biodiesel has but the second tank is for using regular diesel in case he runs out of bio.

It sounds like he converted his truck to run off filtered veggie oil, instead of having to process the oil into biodiesel.
The system that Kevin and I are checking into makes about 16 gallons at a time and costs around $3500 to purchase. We are thinking that we can make our own. Time to go into mad scientist mode!
