Received the biggest shock of my life today. I lost my job. NEVER saw this coming. Business has been so bad, he just can't afford to keep me on. I receive a small severance package, one month insurance for me and Jacob and one full months pay. I should be able to find something, but the shock of it all.........I'm devastated. The market is so bad right now for my business, I was worried, but honestly, not worried enough I guess. I hope I can find something that will not only pay me what I'm worth, but will even HIRE me since the market is so bad. (I'm a real estate paralegal)
It's very rare to have a job you LIKE, one you ENJOY and don't mind going to. One you like the boss, the clients, etc.
I don't know what to do now. I've been crying all afternoon. I'm at such a loss.
My son, who is 3, asked what was wrong. Tried explaining I lost my job, which I knew he wouldn't understand. But I didn't want to lie. He gave me a hug because I was crying and said he'd find my job. Then he said he was sorry I lost my job.

Awwww Michelle. :mecry:
(((HUGS)))) don't cry.
It is a bad time for anything associated with real estate (ask me about my stock :( )
Time to diversify....lots of jobs out there.
Good luck!

I"m so sorry Michelle. Even though you know he didn't want to let you go and that you were doing a good job it just plain hurts when something like that happens.
Do be sure to get a good letter of recommendation. It doesn't hurt to prompt your boss by mentioning some things you did that were particularly helpful, your dependability, ability to get along with people, responsibility, willingness to go above and beyond the required tasks, willingness and ability to learn new material, good attendance record, cheerful disposition, honesty and particular skills you used regularly on the job.
Good luck and hope you find something you really like quickly!

I don't have to update my resume too much. I've only been at this place one year, we just moved here last year.
I'll apply for unemployment on Monday. Way it works here, if you received a severance package, the unemployment check won't start until AFTER that and then it's only 60% of what you normally get. Hopefully I'll have found something by then.
Jacob got major hugs, with me fighting not to cry harder LOL. We then came in the living room and he told Daddy that I had lost my job and he was going to find it. I, of course, lost it again.
I was bawling, actually begging him not to fire me. I feel like such a loser.
Got home, told husband I had to go for a drive (didn't want to keep crying in front of Jacob. Stopped at the grocery store and got a slice of bday cake (they sell it by the slices).
I go from numb to terrified to devastation.
Yes, he said he'd give me a letter of recommendation.

So sorry to hear this.
Just remember that most times when one door is shut, GOD will open
another one and most times if one is faithful and believes, what's behind the new door is better than what was behind the door that closed. I'm living proof of that not once but twice!!!
Tonight a special prayer will go up through Jesus for you and your family.
If I can help you personally in any way just give me a call.

There is one area that is booming and that is attorneys who are dealing with repossessions of real estate. Not a fun job but necessarily we have a relative in it. He used to be with a mortgage company but it was doing so badly he switched to the repossession end and is doing really well. So you might ask around and find out which attorneys handle this type of business because they certainly should be hiring.

Michelle my heart goes out to you and yours. I will say a prayer for you and wish you only the best. Don't be afraid to cry. Wash away the bad feelings. Tomorrow is a new day. Take a few days enjoy. Then get down to doing what you do best. It will all work out.

this is a tough time...but you have a wonderful three year old son who is out there helping you look for your job......
Life throws us all these little curves...then it throws us bricks and boulders...but somehow we (and YOU) will survive and come back stronger... because you will have the life skills to survive this.
So hang in there and know our prayers are with you...
And things are going to turn out ok. Even if a little rough for a time....

Michelle,
I agree with Nancy. Foreclosures are booming. I would look to the attornies that handle the foreclosures I know they are hopping busy.
I'm an appraiser and if it wasn't for HUD foreclosures right know I would starve to death.

Listen to what they say. Foreclosures certainly wouldn't be a job you enjoy, but it would give you a paycheck until times get better...hope that happens REAL soon! In the meantime you may have to settle if you don't want to relocate. Just think about it as a way to make money...a job, not a career.
Big hugs ((been there, done that)) and good vibes.

I feel ya girl. (((Hugs)))
I lost my job a few weeks ago. :(
But I have been in the Mortgage/Real Estate Biz for about 10 years now, so I was expecting the cut backs months ago really.
In my experience, everysingle time I have been let go, I found a BETTER job that paid me more than the previous one, so I stopped worrying.
With in two weeks, I had a new exciting job. :v:
My new job is working for a construction company that builds homes and condos in the Bahamas. I am not in sales per say, but I collect the money and conduct the closings. I have to fly back and forth to Bimini several times a week with our clients.

Anyway, chin up girl. Get on Monster and Careerbuilder and get that new BETTER job.

LOL you can carry my briefcase. ;)
It is actually very tiring to wake up at the crack of dawn to be at the airport in the morning and fly back that evening. But at least I get to enjoy the scenery. I've already eaten about all the conk I can stand...conk fritters, cracked conk, conk soup, conk salad.....:p

Yeah ... I don't "get" the fascination with conk. About as much taste as glue ... with the consistency of rubber. Blagh.
