This evening I went to my very small local grocery store to pick up a few items. My husband was pushing the cart and I was walking alongside. When we got the the laundry soap isle my feet came out from under me and I fell on my bony butt. Of course I tried to break my fall with my left arm. There was a 2 ft x 2ft slick of laundry soap on the ground. I slid (on my bony butt) to a dry area and got up. I waited there while Donald got someone to put up a "slippery floor" sign. Meanwhile the manager (very nice) came up, asked if I needed an ambulance. I told him of course not, he asked if I was hurt. I told him my arm was a bit sore but I was OK. He asked for my name, address & phone number. He asked several times if I was OK, and he apologized for the fall. I told him it wasn't his fault, and it wasn't. He is a very polite young man.

We finished picking up our few items. And went thru the checkout. As we were having our items checked, the cashier was conversing with the bag boy. She said "some lady said she fell down, they better check the camera's to be sure she really did fall down and she's not.....". BIG mistake! I got a little in her face and said I WAS THE LADY THAT FELL DOWN! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO SEE THE SKID MARKS MY SHOES MADE ON THE FLOOR?!!

Hot dang, that really ticked me off.

She was saying this not only in front of me, but in front of other customers.

At this point the manager was still writing up the report, so I went to him and told him I didn't appreciate the cashiers attitude. He did apologized but he wasn't nearly as sincere as he will be:mad2:. He asked me to sign a statement. Which I changed to suit me and I got a copy.

Come Monday the store manager will catch more crap then he can handle. *IF* they call me tomorrow to see how I am I will be a whole lot nicer.

I am absolutely appalled (but not surprised) that an employee would have the gonads to talk about possible lawsuit issues in front of customers, especially without knowing WHAT customer they were talking in front of!

I am one of those people that does NOT believe in frivolous lawsuits. I am also fairly even tempered. It takes a lot to really tick me off. Now I'm VERY ticked. Although I don't believe in frivolous lawsuits, I do believe in smiting butt heads. The cashier is now on my butt head list.

Never say you are ok. Tell them you will be going to the doctor to find out.

I had a slip and fall at the movie theaters. It was raining and the back door was nor shut so when we left no one could see the water. I said I was ok. I went to the doctors the next day and had a heck of a time with a lawsuit since I said I was fine and did not go in an ambulance. I had really thought I was fine. I was not sore.......... until the next day and I couldn't move.

Jenn,
Part of the statement he asked me to sign said "I didn't need medical attention"

I changed it to "I didn't need IMMEDIATE medical attention"

We both signed it.

More then anything the cashiers attutude pe'od me.

Yep - whiplash and similar injuries don't show up until the next day - if then. I was on my way to the barn to load up for a horse show and got hit. Didn't feel 'injured', but the next day I couldn't lift my head off the pillow!

I'd say watch for bruising! It could be colorful!

SIC 'em!!! What a nasty little person she was! I do hope you're fine.

My sister managed to walk right into a fire extinguisher in KMart and almost knocked herself out. Pretty embarrassing.:(

Speaking of whiplash - One morning I was making the bed which had a large, heavy quilted spread on it. I pulled on it really hard because it wasn't sliding over easily. Well my hands both slipped off the edge of the spread and I had major whiplash. Within a couple of hours I literally couldn't move my head. Pretty embarrassing also since I was teaching that day and told my students about the accident making the bed since my stiff neck problem was very obvious. You can imagine the eye rolls I got from the 17 and 18 year olds in my classes.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

When we were hit by a tractor trailer rig on the interstate and went to talk to the insurance agent for the company the driver worked for the agent said she wasn't worried about me being injured since I looked "sturdy" but Kyle is quite slim (his whole family is like that) so she wanted to be sure he got checked out and was OK. Just how I always dreamed of being described - "sturdy":frown::frown:

I got whiplash from one of those amusement park rides that jerk you around. I had no idea I had an injury until I got an astonishing headache later that evening. Finally went to the Dr and was diagnosed. I get 'whiplash' headaches now any time I fall or get jerked.

Had a friend riding with me and she failed to tighten her cinch before coming down the mountain. The saddle was sliding forward over the horse's withers on a very steep part. She jumped off (wisely) and landed on her feet, only to have them come out from under her on steep and fell on her tail bone. She thought she was fine and rode down the mountain and we took the horses home. Later that evening she got a horrible headache, started throwing up, and her mother took her to the ER. She had suffered a concussion at the top of her spine into her brain. She was off work for several weeks.

Soooo, I'm with Jenn, don't be too quick to say you are fine!

Day after and I am OK. My wrist is a wee bit sore if I turn it a certain way. Apparently on my sloooowww motion fall I hit below my elbow on the shelving, it only twinges if I bump it.

I will be having a word or three with the manager (not the shift supervisor). He WILL know how insulted and offended I am about his employees behavior.

And well he should. Nobody needs their employees blabbing like that. Glad you're basically OK.

Well? Any news?

I didn't feel my whiplash until the next day, either. Fortunately, I had the whole UNC-CH athletic dept's medical staff to help me recover. Took a whole summer, and I STILL can star-gaze. The lawsuit was successful - I was under contract to do a summer camp riding program, so I HAD to sue for lost wages. It was my last semester for the MA degree, and I looked pretty hilarious at my oral defense in a neck brace!

However, remembering what happened to Leila, is it wise to request (demand) an ambulance? If the injury is non-emergent, could the business not stick you with the ambulance bill?
