I let Baby and Trooper in the arena overnight so they could share water troughs with the boys. Their's needed to be moved around to where the heater could be put in and plugged in which we didn't get to yesterday. No good deed goes unrewarded. When I went up to feed this morning, Trooper had pulled down and punctured one of the fly bait bags we hadn't taken down yet (we sill had flies as of yesterday). While I was getting feed together, KD rolled in the fly bait...don't you just LOVE animals?
And it's always Trooper and KD, they're always in trouble.
I got that bait bag and the others down and in garbage and shoveled up the contaminated sand. Got up to the house and I'm gagging. Arthur gets up and tries to de-stink KD with handfull's of snow. No dice. Then he had to go to work (over the mountain in the snow). So, I run a bath for KD and Herbal Essence (which only mostly works). I had dry heaves while bathing her. Then had to clean the bathroom and am now washing all my clothes and towels.
Gosh...what a great birthday. BTW - it's Arthur's too.
At least we'll remember this one!

Thank you Lynn and Jen...I'm hoping the day improves, the dog's smell has definately improved! None the less, I started a small pan of cloves and cinnamon on the stove. It does help the smell! LOL
Well, happy coming birthday Lynn...the day after Christmas! You poor baby! My best childhood friend had her birthday then. It was like a non-holiday, so her family would have a party and celebrate it in the summer. Not a bad idea.

Thank you all! Boyd, I am sure I would have had a nicer day there...was a bugger here and cold wind now and snow expected for most of the week. At least we got the studded snows on the car today!
Barbara, I celebrated yet another aniversary of my 39th birthday. ;-)
Stella, Zar did NOT kiss or hug. In fact she rolled in the mud and I'll have to wear a mask to chip it off her tomorrow! :( Only Rosie and Buddy were truely loving today to both of us. With the cold weather they wanted to play, play, and play some more. LOL
KD smells better...which is good, she's under my feet right now. Very fluffy too!

Happy Belated Birthday ------- :horsey: hmmmmmmmm which is worse - stinky dog or quills in the nose ?
Next time try tomato juice - or ,the "farm" stores around here carry a product to destink animals - daughter keeps it on hand for her Boxer - he seems to find skunks -

Carol, Happy belated Birthday!!
Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover is the BEST. We use it quite often on our Cairn Terrier, who can't pass up a good skunkin' ;-)

Happy Birthday! :D
Happy Belated, Carol!
(i get so far behind this time of year . . . .)
just had an e-mail from my sister. she was watching a pet show (didn't mention which one) and their recipe for skunky dogs was
1 quart peroxide
1 cup baking soda
1 tbs dishsoap
rub down thru and into the skin, rinse well so you don't change the fur color and then a second bath with regualr dog shampoo.
Hoping you don't need it tho!

Thank you Dana, and thank you all. Actually, the Woolite worked great. We had a skunk problem 1-1/2 years ago, both dogs got it. We went on line for better solutions then the tomatoe jucie/hydrogen peroxide we'd been told about. Woolite was recommended as the best fix.
I can say it definately fixed the fly bait smell. The Herbal Essence seemed to make it worse (probably uses the same base for smell staying power as the bait). I couldn't handle that. Remembered the Woolite and the instant I put it on the dog, I knew I had my 'fix'. Rinses out well too - but you have to use fresh water. If you use the bath water you just recycle the Woolite (remember it is meant to be very diluted in use).
Anyway, she's very fluffy now! Good thing! Starting at midnight, we're expecting snow, snow and more snow until Wednesday night. She'll need her fluff!

Happy Belated Birthday from another slacker......Sorry I missed it. Glad your day improved and the next day was nicer yet.
I will have to remember the woolite thing. We have been known to have a skunk or two around our place!
It's 75 degrees here and nice but a bit rainy today......so sorry you are having to deal with snow snow snow!
