ATREVIDA DE LAS PALMAS.... does she have a website? Who's the "surname", "Las Palmas"?
Ickis's mother was Latigolita de Palmas, and I'm always family history spelunking.

Las Palmas is a farm in Colombia dont know anything else about it..
Cindy
11-28-2005, 03:51 AM
Latigolita was not from the same farm. Latigolita was bred by Jose and Ellen Perez in Texas.

Ah. See? Another reason why gringo lack of originality is a handicap
Cindy
11-28-2005, 02:10 PM
Um, I don't think Jose Perez is a gringo. And their farm may have been around before the Colombian one as well as I do not recall that suffix on horses from Colombia from that long ago.

Is there any such thing as pride of identity and originality? There are how many Capuchinos, Simbolos, Classicos, Profetas, Bochicas, Latigos, etc... fortunately they have to tack on their farm hame so you know you're getting the Rosetti version of the Dooney & Bourke pattern, not the original.
Cindy

What I love is when they use the famous name and then the farm name and the horse has absolutely no relation to the famous horse whose name they have used.
Ginger
11-28-2005, 08:18 PM
Yep! Exactly! Their horse sucks, no matter what name they put on it.

What a show! I loved it! Great judging, great horses, (cute trainers), what more could ya want? ;-)
But seriously, I had a great time.
Unfortunately, they wouldn't let us make our OWN videos of the horses in the arena b/c they want you to get the video from the designated ppl who had permission. Some ppl were able to take video on there little incognito cameras. But Showtime has a giant professional camera, so it was a obvious. :-? But not to worry, we are getting it from them.
I should have some pix soon. Showtime didn't come back until to day from PR w/all the equipment and pix. We worked hard and got some great interviews and footage around the barns.

Not to be an alarmist, but ballroom comps have went the same way- is this a trend starting for horse shows, not to be able to take your own video? I hope not.

Video cameras weren't permitted at Mundial back when it was in Tampa either. I hadn't noticed it otherwise. It may just be certain shows. I don't imagine, that the shows want more than one prefessional there though. The one hired for the show would complain to show management.

My argument "As above in comps, so below in shows...":
Surely they won't start doing this at Nationals. Everybody I know has at least one mediocre "all in one" digital camera that can take video clips. Are they also going to limit photography (as they have at Blackpool, Harvest Moon, Starball, Hotlanta, etc.)?
Which would you rather have? Baby's First Show on the new horse as taken by proud (shaky) mom from the rail, or paid-out-the-@$$ canned footage? It's not about Battle of the Professionals, it's about "I want a video that I made of my kid/mother/gay lover/slave/brother/horse/trainer/etc..
That's why home movies are called home movies. You never hear of people say "get out the bought movies, kids! I'll make the popcorn!".
Well, as long as there are shifty people like me, bootleg competition footage will be available.
Cindy

Not to mention some people want video of their horse and even when you pay the videographers ahead of time for said video, you may not be on it for more than a minute or two.

it's fine to provide a professional video, and although it's logical to try to eliminate competition so the pro can make money, I think it'd be a better system to let the pro do whatever business they can and not say a thing about anyone making their own videos. I think it ought to be seen as part of the usa's freedom of speach/religion/expression/polytics/etc. Especially at a horse show! isn't that a place where every mom/dad/teacher/relative/friend carries a camara and uses it frequently?
specially in an age when digitals abound, and film cost isn't an issue anymore. And to try to stop that just so the pro camaraman can make money sounds too communistic to me. And if the pro can't make enough money to do it, maybe the demand for the pro videos isn't sufficent to be worth it. or if the pro video is needed for broadcast on tv, the money for it may have to come from elsewhere.

Consider illegal videos of music groups or movies. Very illegal. If the people who run the show sell the video rights then it is illegal to violate them. This is not communisitc. It's the freemarket economy that allows the show operators to sell video rights to the highest bidder or to whoever they wish to sell them to. Disneyworld restricts video. It's quite common. Do we like it? No. The professional is not necessarily going to get the footage the individual wants. If the participants are offended by the sale of video rights they can always boycott the show to get a compromise that allows family to videotape. It may come down to the inability to get a professional if they don't get a committment that they alone make the videos so it's a choice between a mish mash of amatuer videos or one professional video???

Well, in a foreign country, I don't see what could be done about them making any rule they want, but I would not show my horses if they forced me to use the show photographer only.
I always support the show photographer with a purchase, usually several pictures, but I also always have someone stationed with my camera to take pictures too. I figure I'm the one paying to show, put on the show, and bring my horse. That's a big expense when all I get are some ribbons and pictures...I'll be ##$@%O(& if someone is not going to let me take my own pictures of my horse!
Think about it...how much MORE covereage would Mundial have for their show if they allowed Showtime to cover it, then they are getting this way, forcing them to buy a few videos of certain classes? It's like cutting your nose of to spite your face. Are they going to demand royalties for showing it? Or posting it on the BB?
