I watched a video once that showed how if you ask a horse to leave you and drive him off...he'll "join up" with you because he won't want to be outside of the "herd".
I tried it in the ring one day. I asked Scooter to leave and he saw that one of the side posts was down (I hadn't seen that) and he took off wemt right out of the ring and across a field.
Of course the owner of the barn was laughing his butt off from his tractor. When I ask Scooter to leave..he LEAVES.
Ever try a new training technique and find that it didn't go exactly like the video?
I love funny stories like that.

yeah, i did that with a big andalusian/arabian gelding last year. he had been spoiled rotten for a long time and allowed to get away with a bunch of junk. i dont normally free lunge a horse, but i decided to work him that way a bit. after two laps around my 60 ft. roundpen, he sailed over the panels as gracefully as his 1250 lbs. would allow, crushing one panel down to the ground. it looked like slow motion! and all i could do was watch!

ED: That happened to me w/my Storm too! I cant lunge him w/out the line in the round pen anymore. He alwasy trys to jump it now unless I have ahold of him.. lol
I need to remember when I build my ranch to have a round pen w/REALLY high panels..lol :D
I can picture how pretty the Andalusian was jumping that!lol

yes it works, sometimes fast, sometimes not, with lots of repetitions. but only if you can run faster than horse can. of course if horse is running in a circle it's easy to run faster than he does, just by standing in the middle. but quirks happen, just have to repair or rebuild and try again. i made my permanant one 7 ft tall so jumping it would not be an option.
using the same idea it works nice to do all the despooking at freedom, and everytime horse gets uncomfortable with something and leaves, i can send him around a bit untill he decides it was better to stay with me.
