View Full Version : Well, Rosalita has passed away
I had been talking to Marleen lately telling her I knew it was Rosalita's time and that I needed to let her go...and I planned to but I didn't expect today to be the day and I didnt plan on her going without me being able to have a good long talk with her and say my goodbyes.I have known I was on borrowed time with her but it sure doesn't hurt any less.I can't wrap my brain around the fact that she really is gone and will never be around again.I can not see her not being there right with me everytime I go out.I had arangements for her so our friend came, got her onto his flat trailer, and took her as soon as I called.Part of me wants to look for a foal to have around. One that is right so that I can have the experience I should have been able to have.I don't know,I just don't know.
I guess I should feel lucky she lived at all much less for two years and three months.Your friend,Moniece

Dear Mo-
I think you had exactly the experience you were supposed to have....just think...someone else might have never had the patience to care for Rosalita so long. The good Lord knew you would still love her no matter what her troubles. She knew she was loved.

It's hard enough to let the old ones go... doesn't seem fair for the young ones to leave before their time... really sorry to hear about Rosalita.
She hasn't been well in a long time.Between her neurological problems,DSLD,and having a terrible time keeping weight on her she really was just existing. When I would accidently come upon her pictures from when she was younger and doing well it would start me crying like a baby. She is much better off now,I know. She had gone down hill so much in this last year.
Thank you all, every one of you for sharing Rosalita's life with me from begining to end.Your friend,Moniece

Moniece, I am very sorry about your loss of Rosalita. I'm sure she brought alot to your life in fond memories to hold onto to keep her close to your heart. It can be hard but think of her in a place without pain and that she had you as a loving person to care for her in her short life.
((((I pass along to you a big cyber hug!))))

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. You guys fought a long and hard battle and hopefully you are comforted to know that Rosalita enjoyed some of life and you enjoyed being a part of hers.
Thank you all!!! It's really starting to sink in as i've looked out and not seen her about 100 times so far.As much as I have wanted a palomino paso so bad,I don't think my heart will ever beable to stand it.Your friend,Moniece

Oh NO - I can't believe it. I'm so sorry Moniece. We know what it's like to lose a young one you love so much and the pain is unbearable. She was so lucky to have had you to love her for even such a short time. They just take such a piece out of you when they leave. We cry with you. She was so beautiful. Somehow I think she'll come back to you. Just watch for her. You'll know when you find her again.

Moniece - I'm so sorry that you had to lose Rosalita. I know she was your dream foal when you bred for her. And you went so over and beyond to take care of her when others would never even have given her the chance you did. Sleep well, Rosalita. You will be missed by many. Prayers for you Moneice :mecry:

You know, Mo, I think this is exactly right. Keep your heart open. The one that is looking for you may not look anything like Rosalita, but you will know when you see it, that this horse needs you. Follow your instinct. Listen to your heart.
Hugs.

Moniece - You were chosen, thus you are blessed. You were the one that had the time and heart to be with Rosalita, not someone else. You have great times to have memories of, not someone else. And now, YOU are the one that has a beautiful angel looking after you, not someone else. May you find peace in your heart. Many hugs, Tami

Moniece, I'm just catching up on the forum and saw this. I am so very sorry
for your loss but you did the right thing for Rosalita. You did all you could to give her a good life. I was fortunate to have my DSLD horses for eight years before symptoms started in their teens. It's so much harder when they are just babies.
The neurological symptoms and difficulty keeping weight on were most likely due to the DSLD/ESPA too. DSLD isn't really a good name for it anymore, since it's now known to be system-wide connective tissues disease, not just legs. So can affect brain, lungs, stomach, skin, heart. There have sadly been quite a few affected youngsters documented and in a number of breeds. It's really heartbreaking and I hope all breeders will help the researchers by documenting and tracking it when cases come up, as it's most likely hereditary.
Again, I'm so sorry, Moniece.
Hugs to you and all your horses.
