Great video Ed. I'm going to share it with my sister. She is taking vaquero lessons in Spain right now.

(NB When I studied in Spain 1983-1984 I went to MANY bullfights, loved them, read books and magazines on it, talked with Spainiard fans while tapaering, and almost got to try my hand at it. However, I've always had mixed feelings about bullfights. I'd probably go to that Taurino school in California if someone gave me the time and money, but my feelings are still mixed.)

Neat but scary.... I would HATE to get run thru w/a horn, me or my horse... I find it very interesting but would never venture to try..
In the actual events do they put protective gear on horses and on bull horns?

They protect one of the faena horses in the traditional bullfight (non-mounted) - the one where the bull HAS to gore the horse so the rider can cut specific neck muscles (those that allow him to raise his head above a certain level). He is heavily padded and usually survives. The rider is in great danger if the horse falls, and seems to get hurt a lot even from the saddle, despite metal armor on that leg and foot.
Sometimes (often, I think) they tip the bull's horns with a cap to protect the mounted bullfighters. A very, very small cap, disallowing it to "catch" but does not prevent gores. Helps, though.

do not look at this if you are offended by bullfighting but if you love classical horse movements of the high school then do look.
