Gorgeous - both of them!
Hard to believe it's been that long. Our guys are just turning 4 also. Adriel was 4 in March and Brilliant will be 4 in May. Time flies.

Thanks, everyone. He is a very good boy with a sweet spirit. Eventually I will get him moving out and collected a bit. For now I'm asking for relaxed, sometimes extended, walk and good stops, backs and some leg yielding. We also do flexes and large circles. He's still easily distracted and things on trail are new to him. I'd rather sit a bit of a spook at the walk than in a corto or largo. He's learning very well and is almost to the point of turning on his own toward the "boogers in the bushes". He's figured out if he doesn't do it himself I will ask him to do it.

It is funny when they figure that out... ;)

I was thinking about this and the difference between how mares and stallions/geldings respond to a threat. Our boys much more frequently go toward it and will strike out facing the threat. Only our gelding will use the rear fairly often but then only to shove another one of the boys out of the way, not to kick. The mares will do this some times but more typically they will swing the butt around and pick up that rear foot and give the intruder the evil eye or let fly with both barrels. Although probably five of our mares will chase dogs and other critters in their pasture and will strike out with a front leg. But it's not as common. So I wonder for those who have trained a thousand or so horses - is it more difficult to get the girls to face the threat because of their more general propensity for using the rear for defense?
