After a long, hard night and a slightly difficult labor -- Mila has a new colt!
Yeah, I know, I wanted a filly, but he's sooooooo cute: buckskin, I think, with three white feet and a cute little star.

More details and photos to follow. He's still having some problem trying to nurse, and this site is so darn slow lately.

Well that is TERRIFIC! I know you wanted a filly and Carol wanted a colt....what the heck? these 2 got mixed up I guess!:D

Hope mom and baby are doing fine! With a first time mom sometimes you have to hold her so the baby can nurse or you can tie her and guide the foal to the milk.

Congratulations!! Can't wait to see him!

And three of our four last foals had some problems with suckling. Brilliant was too tall and mom was a AAA. Pistachio was too short to reach and Adriel kept suckling her mom's armpit. We had to hold two in position. Mom got Adriel into the right place by herself.

Definitely a vet issue if it continues, but these things usually resolve themselves. Good luck and congrats.
